Victoria's Secret has finally embraced Karlie Kloss' chin-grazing hair - but the lingerie giant's fans don't seem so convinced. After covering the 20-year-old's newly chopped hair with mermaid-length extensions for its annual runway show last year, the brand has let Miss Kloss show off her blunt bob in the new Very Sexy ad campaign. Here is a hint for women. If chopping off her hair makes a six-foot tall Victoria's Secret model look like a librarian with "Mall of America" hair, what do you think it is going to do for you?
Miss Kloss chopped her flowing mane off two days before the 2012 Victoria's Secret runway show, and many in the fashion industry hoped she would walk the runway with her new do. But just a few hours later, - after $75,000 worth of hair extensions, according to lead hairstylist Orlando Pita - Miss Kloss' hair was once again long and luscious.
If a model like Karlie Kloss can't pull off short hair without looking like a desexed, less attractive version of herself - and if you look at the pictures, it is eminently clear that she can't - precisely how deluded do you have to be to think that you're going to be able to do so? Or worse, to believe that you already are....

I overheard a girl on the tram talking about her $2000 hair extensions, which I thought was preposterous, but $75 000? Jesus.
It’s not that difficult to understand.
Sexy=long hair
If you want to appear sexy for your man, look like the VS models (long hair, thin, quiet)
The short-hair models are found on the other runways. Those women also typically have the hips and feminine vibe of 12 year old boys because the designers are gay men who find slim hips, short hair, and square jaws appealing.
They can blame men for the emaciated models, but straight men aren’t the driving force in female fashion.
And that hair isn't even that short, really. I have knowm quite of married (sometimes but not always professional) women with hair much shorter than that.
My wife's hair now streams past her waist. It's truly amazing. At one point early in our marriage she cut it short (after I, mistakenly, thought it might look good). Worst ever.
Not only does she keep her hair long... she stays in decent shape. 111 lbs, 5' 7". (And this is after having six kids.)
It cracks me up how women make excuses about their weight "ever since the pregnancy" as if it were impossible to recover from having a baby. They say these things even as they snack on candy and eat pizza and desserts.
Quit eating crap. Grow your hair long. Be feminine. Win!
Okay, so, watched the Victoria's Secret advert... twi- three ti- oh, who am I kidding. It's on repeat.
Anyway, one of the reasons that Karlie Kloss' blunt bob haircut comes off looking bad is that all of the other women in the advert have long, attractive hair. Even with the unattractive haircut she is still a beautiful woman, but she comes across worse in comparison. Think about that, ladies, the next time one of your so-called friends tells you to cut your hair short.
The interesting thing isn't just that it cost 75K for teh extensions, but that VS was willing to pay that much for them. Thus, the marginal value of longer hair on a supermodel is tens of thousands of dollars. What might is be worth on normal girl?
Deja vu. Wasn't this the topic just a couple of days ago? Is this really that interesting of a topic?
@mina
C'mon. Just breathe deep and enjoy the follicle fetishism.
I have more important fetishes to indulge today ;-)

What is it about beating the dead horse you don't get?
If a message is worth communicating so as to save much grief and marital friction then it is worth repeating so those needing to hear it get so sick of it that they begin to flinch whenever the topic is even alluded to.
Here's your stick... there's the horse...(points over there)... you know what to do.
And if all else fails, mina, find some way to make it about you.
I always feel like my life is an exception to all these posts on the sphere...I've always had my hair long and I don't know how many guys I've dated say that like when my hair is shorter or is up in a pony tail or bun. They love it, I don't get it.
Yeah, I personally like the way short hair looks on some women. I've been tempted to try the whole pixie thing myself (partially because other women encouraged me - which I suppose I should have taken as a DHV). Anyway, I get the point though. Girls tend to think the ripped guy at the gym is sexy. Guys tend to think the girl with long, luscious hair is sexy. Is this achievable for everyone? No. Some guys have scrawny genes and will always be a talk drink of water - albeit a toned and fit one. Some girls have thin or breakable hair that honestly looks better shorter, and with some offsetting girl game they can still aim for cute and feminine. However, most women can grown their hair out and learn a couple basic braids or up-dos, and most men can start seeing improvement with a push-up routine or by swinging some kettle bells. I can't really understand why people get their skivvies in a twist over stuff like this.
Oh, and long hair is easy! Mine is longish mid-back. Three minutes with a hair dryer to get the bangs and roots and two minutes twisting it back into a bun of some sort, and I can be out the door for church or dinner. Remember to get a shower earlier in the day and it probably takes even less time. Air dry hair until damp. Run a little product through it and hit with a hair dryer.
It's surprising how unsexy Kloss' bob is. If she'd been wearing a pretty tailored dress on a runway, she could probably pull of 'fashionable' with that 'do. But when she's just wearing the undies, it highlights how boring and androgynous the bob is.
Can't deny it, the vast majority of women look better with long hair. (Just as the vast majority of men look better with facial hair. Oh, how wonderful it is that facial hair is coming back in style!)
"Anyway, one of the reasons that Karlie Kloss' blunt bob haircut comes off looking bad is that all of the other women in the advert have long, attractive hair. good point.
Awesome. She looks good with short hair, but she'd look good with a bucket on her head. She looks amazing with long hair. And the long-hair pictures don't even do justice to it. Put her in a slinky evening gown with all that hair down, or done up into French braids or something. Part of the point of long hair is that it flows when it's down, so you need to see it moving with her to get the full effect.
And as someone said, her short hair wasn't really all that short. Below the chin, it's still long enough to catch a breeze, or for her to flick out of her eyes sexily. It's nowhere near the "brillo pad" look that women end up with so often when they go short.
Ashley, two things about that.
First, many men have been indoctrinated by feminism to say that they like short hair. It's like when they say they like a woman who's "strong and independent." They don't really, but they've been taught that that's what women want to hear.
Second, having long hair up in a bun or something isn't at all the same thing as having short hair. When you have your long hair up, it makes us want to let it down. Short hair doesn't let us aspire to that.
Also, I can't be the only guy who finds it sexy when a woman puts her hair up/down or fixes her pony tail or whatever. It's not a fetish or anything, but it's one of those things that's strictly feminine -- like one of their secret rites that no man knows how to do -- so when a woman does that thing where she pulls out the holders, runs her hands through it to arrange it, and whips it back together in some arrangement on top of her head, all in about 10 seconds, there's something intimate about that that makes it intriguing. Why give that up?
You guys have absolutely no sense of humor whatsoever.
Very. Droll.
Cail,
"First, many men have been indoctrinated by feminism to say that they like short hair. It's like when they say they like a woman who's "strong and independent." They don't really, but they've been taught that that's what women want to hear."
I'm not going to deny that most men better like longer hair on women within reasonable cause, but come on, are you really going to sit there and say, "Oh well if there are any men out there that say they like short hair, then it's only because feminism has trained them to say that....they don't really feel that way." It sound pretty delusional when you read that back, doesn't it.
I get it, most men like long hair. But there are straight men who genuinely are attracted to shorter hair on women too.
Smileys Mina. They are tedious, but they take the serious sounding comment and give it the intention you are looking for. Smileys. . .
; )
Ashley,
Sure there are. I have honestly met one and know of one other who honest to goodness prefer short hair. But that's just the thing. There are very few.
I don't know whether to roll my eyes or laugh, so I do both.
Femnists are are so quick to a accuse men of being controlling when they don't want to be cuckholded or imprisoned over ex post factor regrets. Yet, they think they can decide.what men find attractive.
Ladies, you don't get to decide what men find attractive any more than they get to decide what you find attractive, and believe me we are perplexed as to how dirty assholes get so many beautiful women.
Imagine men insisting that women should find balding potbellied men attractive. Hoe ridiculous we'd look to you is how ridiculous you look to us.
Imagine men insisting that women should find balding potbellied men attractive.
Point taken, but just so you know, balding can be very attractive. If a balding man shaves his head or cuts his hair very, very short, it's a good look (see: Jason Statham). Pot-bellied, not so much.
Deja vu. Wasn't this the topic just a couple of days ago? Is this really that interesting of a topic?
Merely evidence of support for my position. From no less an authority than VICTORIA'S SECRET.
She looks good with short hair, but she'd look good with a bucket on her head.
And we now have an official test. Ladies, if you'd look good with a bucket on your head, you will probably also look good with short hair.
balding can be very attractive. If a balding man shaves his head or cuts his hair very, very short, it's a good look
Stickwick, you have this bass-ackwards. Allow me to fix it for you:
An attractive man can be balding. If an attractive man shaves his head or cuts his hair very, very short, it can also be a good look.
Unless the bad, bad hair is the main reason for the unattractiveness, an unattractive man who shaves his head or cuts his hair very, very short is likely to just be a bald or short-haired unattractive man.
I always feel like my life is an exception to all these posts on the sphere
Of course it is, sweetheart
They are tedious, but they take the serious sounding comment and give it the intention you are looking for.
You mean attention, right?
Ashley,
Sorry, I forgot to include weasel words to indicate I wasn't talking about every man everywhere at all times. No, I'm not saying every man who says he likes short hair is lying or deluded. But most are. Just recently in another thread, a woman talked about how her husband said he loved her short hair, and then when she let it get longer again, he admitted he really preferred it that way. For most men, "I don't like short hair" ranks with "that makes you look fat" in the book of things they think they'd better not say to women.
You guys have absolutely no sense of humor whatsoever.
Long hair is not a joking matter!!!!!!!
Neither is equine necrobattery!!
the book of things [most men] think they'd better not say to women
"I don't like short hair"
"that makes you look fat"
We should make a list of these, for shits and giggles.
The sad part is when you see an attractive gal with short hair.
I know of one that would be a bombshell if it wasn't for her head looking like a 13 year old boy.
"the book of things [most men] think they'd better not say to women"
I got one...
The word 'no'
equine necrobattery!!
Man...if those were mass-produced, I could solve the stupid U.S. ban on horse slaughter and raise my own undead cavalry in one fell swoop.
One question, where do you stick them?
Sure longer hair is hotter. But far behind body composition, facial symmetry. Teeth. Oh god teeth. Aside from the aesthetic reasons, any American who has slightly crooked teeth clearly had a wild and wooly backwoods upbringing. Now that is a red flag.
I know of one that would be a bombshell if it wasn't for her head looking like a 13 year old boy.
On the other hand, it is an opportunity for a great pick-up line.
"Excuse me, sir!"
"Of course it is, sweetheart"
Yes. By the way, calling a woman sweetheart in a condescending tone, is super hot. Do this to every lady, really.
One question, where do you stick them?
-- Apparently, into the beef supply in Ireland.
The word 'no'
Yeah, that's a sticker. I usually try to soften it by laughing first.
The best example I know of a woman who was able to cut her short hair and still look good, if not even more appealing, is Babi Rossi. She is (or was) a member of the "Panicats," which are a group of sexy girls that are part of a Brazilian TV show.
Rossi is not just beautiful, but extremely curvaceous and at least by all outward appearances seems to love being feminine. Also-- she didn't choose the short hair, she had her head shaved as a gimmick on Brazilian national Television.
However, while I actually do prefer the short-haired (not shaved) Rossi to the long-haired version, I still consider it a "minor flaw that enhances the overall beauty" and something that helps her stand out. But that's a relative thing. If she wasn't a TV performer surrounded by other beautiful long-haired women, she wouldn't get those points for individuality.
Stickwick: "If she'd been wearing a pretty tailored dress on a runway, she could probably pull of 'fashionable' with that 'do. But when she's just wearing the undies, it highlights how boring and androgynous the bob is."
Yeah. The femininity of a dress can make things happen.
And this may sound crazy, but I'm really damned tired of overexposed womanflesh. There's hardly a place left without images of half-clad chicks. Dare I say it's getting boring?
Or that I find a Mennonite gal more interesting than yet another bikini babe?
Morena Baccarin in Firefly vs. Homeland. Still cute in Homeland, but definitely not as attractive.
If a balding man shaves his head or cuts his hair very, very short, it's a good look (see: Jason Statham).
Heh I am about to do just that on Friday. Not sure whether to go with the #2 razor, the #1, or the full-on Chrome Dome.
Unless the bad, bad hair is the main reason for the unattractiveness, an unattractive man who shaves his head or cuts his hair very, very short is likely to just be a bald or short-haired unattractive man.
You could say the same thing about an unattractive woman. An unattractive woman who leaves her hair long or cuts it short is likely to just be a long-haired / short-haired unattractive woman.
In any case, my statement didn't need fixing. Just as women are not the arbiters of what men find physically attractive, men are not the arbiters of what women find physically attractive. The balding look is a look that some women find especially appealing, which is why men with full thick heads of hair sometimes intentionally shave it all off. Jason Statham with hair = boring, totally unremarkable. Jason Statham with almost no hair = hot. And Vin Diesel, who I personally don't find attractive, but he definitely has a cool look -- have you seen him with hair? He looks terrible.
Apropos of nothing, I had no idea until just now there was such a thing as a "hair extension", let alone that you could pay $75K for it.
I would have said, why not get a wig?
Maybe women like guys with shaved heads because it gives off a "I don't give a fuck" vibe
Yes. By the way, calling a woman sweetheart in a condescending tone, is super hot. Do this to every lady, really.
Sure thing, darling
So much for the subjective theory of value. I don't have a problem w/ this hair cut.
This wailing about hair length is somewhat overstated w/ so many details coming from so few people.
I prefer hair to the bra strap, longer is too heavey and not flattering (see Demi Moore). Shoulder length can be fine, or even preferable given the woman's facial features.
This cut on Kloss is not a huge drawback b/c of her intense good looks. It's not her best, but the different look is engaging.
As for pixie cuts- don't knock them for a woman who is 5' tall (or less). Simply b/c they are short enough to look like a pixie. Long hair on a girl that short doesn't work.
Maybe women like guys with shaved heads because it gives off a "I don't give a fuck" vibe
Not sure that's it, but we women are notorious for not understanding why we find something sexually appealing, so don't necessarily take my word for it. FWIW, my own personal assessment is that it looks macho and kind of dangerous. There are a couple of totally bald guys at my gym, both are well-built, and I find myself looking at them more than the other muscular guys at the gym who have full heads of hair. They just seem tougher somehow. And if either of those guys grew a mustache, yowza.
Just to support the notion that "I don't give a f***" isn't necessarily the basis of the shaved-head appeal, here is a definitive "I don't give a f***" statement, which is decidedly unappealing.
"Pixie ... don't knock them for a woman who is 5' tall (or less). Simply b/c they are short enough to look like a pixie. Long hair on a girl that short doesn't work"
Really now...tell us more about your opinion diverges from our illustrious host and his cadre of commenters.
Half bob here. Pixie cuts work on pixies. Job means long hair gets in the way. Ease of prep trumps what guys think about it, anyway.
... ah yes ... maybe it was worth hanging around after all ...
popcorn anyone?
the book of things [most men] think they'd better not say to women
"You're wrong"
"You're being irrational"
"Shhh"
"Of course it is, sweetheart" heh.
Mina: Deja vu. Wasn't this the topic just a couple of days ago? Is this really that interesting of a topic?
Heck, it's one of the few topics I can understand and follow.
I always feel like my life is an exception to all these posts on the sphere...
Of course. It is about you, naturally, as all things are.
I've always had my hair long and I don't know how many guys I've dated say that like when my hair is shorter or is up in a pony tail or bun. They love it, I don't get it.
Do we speak of your small army of beta orbiters?
Ease of prep trumps what guys think about it, anyway.
Tell me, does this "ease of prep" therefore make it attractive, or does "what guys think about it" factor in at all to its attractiveness?
Mina- My opinion diverges simply in one area: that all men think longer always means better.
I'm suggesting a majority of men would consider hair to the waist as "too long" for most women. So there's a lot of bad advice being given on these threads.
But that doesn't mean that the general notion: men prefer long hair, is wrong.
Doesn't anyone else remember the uproar when Keri Russell cut her hair? Certainly people weren't watching her show for the acting.
Pip- How many cats do you have now?
Shoulder length, maybe bra strap length, is good in my opinion. Not super long, but long enough to be undeniably feminine, enjoyable to run your fingers through, etc. Waist-length or below tends to get in the way and not be as well maintained.
Maybe women like guys with shaved heads because it gives off a "I don't give a fuck" vibe
Here is why.
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-205_162-57527700/study-men-with-shaved-heads-look-more-dominant/
Call it the Bruce Willis effect: men with shorn heads are seen as more dominant, confident and masculine than men with hair, according to a new study published online in July in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science.
If a balding man shaves his head or cuts his hair very, very short, it's a good look (see: Jason Statham).
Heh I am about to do just that on Friday. Not sure whether to go with the #2 razor, the #1, or the full-on Chrome Dome.
Well... I cut my own hair myself awhile back. I went with a #2 guard on the clippers. Mrs. G has not said that she likes it, but I can tell that she does.
Obviously, you aren't going to get $75000 hair extensions if it is too short, so see you you like it with the 2 first.
Ease of prep trumps what guys think about it, anyway
Is it that there aren't instructions on the hair tie package?
Perhaps this will help.
Ah, Stickwick. Not The Dude. Jeff Bridges. Come on. He's totally rocking that bathrobe. Such a hilarious movie, you come to love him, but don't want to bed him. I'll give you that (not in that movie anyway).
Re: Keri Russell. Anyone else watching The Americans? Okay, now I get why Philip digs Elizabeth (Russell) over Irina (Marina Squerciati). Irina's hair is shorter. . .
Re: The American's. It has some notable gaps in story/realism, but still compelling commentary on marriage/lies/intimacy/ even "gender roles," to some degree, but what's up with the graphic level of the sex scenes? Any thoughts?
Sorry to be OT. See, I can't even stay focused on hair.
Giraffe: WUSSY! I use no guard on my buzz clippers. (I'm lazy, I do my own and I can take longer between trimmings going down to 1/8".)
A long time friend looked at me with the severe buzz and said "You look MEANER!"
I think I like that.
THIS is how to do a ponytail:

Stickwick - I feel ya on that Jason dude. Much better sans hair.
In Breaking Bad, actor Hugh Cranston used hair as a means to convey the transition of mild mannered Walter White to bad ass Heisenberg. As Heisenberg, he shaved his head and grew facial hair. (Sorry, don't know how to insert links, but google Walter White or Breaking Bad.) It's totally convincing and yeah, the bad ass guy is way more appealing, which is one of - if not the - most the intriguing aspect of the show: White's transformation from beta to alpha.
"I'm suggesting a majority of men would consider hair to the waist as "too long" for most women."
deja vu all over again.
Giraffe: WUSSY! I use no guard on my buzz clippers. (I'm lazy, I do my own and I can take longer between trimmings going down to 1/8".)
I am thinking I'll go chrome dome this summer, but I need to get some sun first. Not wanting to blind anyone. I'll try it once to at least see how it looks.
THIS is how to do a ponytail:
I like it. Have to try it on my daughters.
"But there are straight men who genuinely are attracted to shorter hair on women too."
Yes, but that hair is located lower on her body. Shorter or shaved is better in that region.
Yes, but that hair is located lower on her body. Shorter or shaved is better in that region.
I eagerly await the women who will leap into the fray, shrieking about how many men have expressed admiration of their foot-long dreadlocks.
My husband had a full head of hair and it was rather long. He shaved it off for St. Baldrick's day a few years ago. It was a shock. He decided he really liked it (ease of care and all that.) I hated it at first and couldn't stand to touch it. After a while I got used to it.
Now, I'd have to say he looks super hot, confident and in control. I totally dig it. It seems to work for at him the office too, he seems to get a lot more cred from his peers, superiors and underlings.
Whoever posted the before and after of the Transporter guy - that's pretty much sums it up.
"Tell me, does this "ease of prep" therefore make it attractive, or does "what guys think about it" factor in at all to its attractiveness?"
Yes. It's easier to get my day started before work with a short do.
"what guys think about it" factors in a little, but not as much as what I think about for the aforementioned convenience. "what *my* guy thinks about it" rates somewhere in between, but he's never specified a preference. I should ask him next time I stop talking.
"Is it that there aren't instructions on the hair tie package?"
That's a good question. Don't know if there are instructions on the box or not, come to ponder it. Are there on yours?

"Yes, but that hair is located lower on her body. Shorter or shaved is better in that region."
Now that's a "hair thread" that might be truly "illustrious" and informative.
I've known one straight man who claimed to like short hair as it exposed his wife's lovely neck. Ironically, I passed the couple on the street a few years back and her hair was touching her shoulders. I wondered who initiated the growth.
I liked the encouragement about pulling hair up. My hair is super thick, so the longer it gets, the easier it gets. Always wondered if pulled up was "acceptable." (My husband likes it long, but doesn't indulge in detailed conversation or hair analysis; he just says, "I like it long.") It's almost mid-back now, to the point I can pull it up easily without the ends resembling a bristle brush. I purchased these awesome twist and clip things and went on line to get usage tips. Was fascinated to see dozens of non-hair models posting videos of how to do their hair - a whole world unto itself, this girlie hair world. My sis has gorgeous naturally curly blond hair and used to spend hours trying to manage it. I'd forgotten about those days.
That's a good question. Don't know if there are instructions on the box or not, come to ponder it. Are there on yours?
It's odd that you responded to that and that you continue to respond on this subject. It is indeed much easier for me to not apply skin care, makeup, and perfume too. What does that have to do with anything? It's easier to heat up prepackaged food for my family too - it is prudent to not always do that which is easier.
Since the subject is what is or is not sexy, your contributions here do confirm the need for posts like these because you demonstrate the typical female inability to think beyond herself.
Can we get a "cellulite is not sexy" post soon Vox?
None. Large animal practitioner from A&M here
What an interesting way to answer the question of whether or not you own a cat.
Is it your intention to offer up text book examples of why blogs like these exists?
"Ease of prep trumps what guys think about it, anyway"
Sure does. Well, unless you're a woman trying to attract men I guess.
Her hair is the shortest I like. And even that is pushing it.
I'd still do her of course. If she shaved it off and got a bull nose ring is still do her.
I'm a sex addict.
Three minutes and twenty-five seconds, guys. That's how long it takes to unbraid, brush, braid, and put up with a clip.
That's not a fancy style, of course, that's a housework, gardening, everyday life sort of style.
Caveats: my hair is straight. It's waist-length. I don't have bangs. The humidity today is perfect: no static.
Sure there are. I have honestly met one and know of one other who honest to goodness prefer short hair. But that's just the thing. There are very few.
And there are guys who have a fetish for amputees too, and I've always suspected guys who are attracted to traits most men find unappealing have something wrong themselves. They suspect they don't have much chance with pretty girls because of whatever dysfunction of their own, so they protect their ego by developing a lust for broken girls.
So I wouldn't advise a woman to cut her hair, or anything else off, just to appeal to a tiny and likely unappealing demographic of men.
Oh, regarding Kloss, the thing I noticed is that with short hair, she looks very pretty in some pictures from some angles (mostly closeups), and just sort of above average in others (long shots are particularly sub-par). But with long hair, she is stunning from any angle and any distance.
She has a very pretty face, but really a mostly average body (well, average for the non-carboholics anyway). Tight shots that are mostly face, she still looks good, but she needs the long hair to pull your eye away from the boring expanse of her lower torso.
Gamma Rabbit does seem vertically challenged. But then you have Scalzi by his short hares.
@Loki of Asgard
Do we speak of your small army of beta orbiters?
No need to go nuclear.
"Trim your bangs".
I'm suggesting a majority of men would consider hair to the waist as "too long" for most women.
That's a pretty wild claim. I've never heard any man say that any woman's hair was "too long."
Interesting discussion of really short hair on guys. I have been debating that myself recently. I love the ease of caring for a shaved head, but I was wondering recently if I should grow it out a bit for more "street cred" on the job and such. I have the greying at my temples my father had at this time, though mostly only there.
I am not sure it would add enough value to be worth the extra hassle though. Losing some weight and getting into lifting weights would probably do much more and would help my health.
Cail,
I'm the guy who said he didn't like waist-length hair. The other side of that is I cannot be sexually attracted to a woman with short hair. I don't care if she's got the most breathtakingly awesome body ever, if she's rocking a pixie I'd want nothing to do with her.
Also, imagine knee-lenth hair. Talk about frumpy cult member hair.
Also, imagine knee-lenth hair. Talk about frumpy cult member hair.
Depends who's wearing it and how it's worn. A lot of guys wouldn't mind joining her cult.
Jane Seymour had very, very long hair when she was young. I dunno if most men would agree, but I always thought she was the most breathtakingly beautiful woman ever, especially when she was on Battlestar Galactica. She's the reason I wanted to grow my hair long in the first place.
I'd rather take Athena from the original Battlestar Galactica... mmmmmm....
Call it the Bruce Willis effect: men with shorn heads are seen as more dominant, confident and masculine than men with hair, according to a new study published online in July in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science.
Male Pattern Baldness has been tentatively linked to high testosterone. A guy who has MPB generally looks goofy with a circlet of medium length hair around the sides of his head and nothing on top. If you've gone bald on top, shaving the rest of it (or at least cropping it very tight) generally looks better.
Also, MPB tends to progress as one gets older, and theoretically, more socially dominant.
So, bald/shaved head guy implies high testosterone and old enough to be important. Gee, what could a woman ever see in a guy like that?
"And this makes men desire to look upon you?"
Dunno. You'd have to ask my beta orbiters, Io and Ganymede.
"I would consult a physician before administering such a shock, were I you."
I'll trust my own judgment with that particular large animal.
"Yes, but what of hamsters?"
What part of 'large animal' is hanging you up? You'll have to shave them yourself.
"It's odd that you responded to that and that you continue to respond on this subject."
Easily confuzzled, are we today?
"Since the subject is what is or is not sexy..."
And since what's sexy must be balanced with what's easy for day-to-day for some, well, you can figure it out from here...
"And there are guys who have a fetish for amputees too.."
This is Au. Yeah, they're the *exact* same thing...
Heh said...
Heh I am about to do just that on Friday. Not sure whether to go with the #2 razor, the #1, or the full-on Chrome Dome.
Chrome dome. If you have male pattern baldness, even a very short bit of hair highlights this fact. Shave it daily to eliminate the effect.
> Shave it daily to eliminate the effect.
That eliminates the "easy to care for" bonus, even if it is good.
I'm the guy who said he didn't like waist-length hair.
Again, as with short hair, I'm sure there are some men who don't like it that long, and good for them. But "a majority of men"? Sorry, that's just nonsense.
On men shaving their heads: like Charlize Theron with a pixie cut, I suspect that Bruce Willis and Patrick Stewart make bald look good, rather than the other way around. I see a lot of ordinary white guys whose shaved heads give off an aura of "I'm trying too hard" rather than "I'm a badass alpha." It might be critical to get in good shape before shaving it, because a bald head on a fat guy just emphasizes the overall roundness of his body. A common sight around here is a shaved-head white guy, maybe 30-50 pounds overweight, wearing a baggy t-shirt advertising for a sports team or beer and baggy shorts down past his knees, following his fat girlfriend/wife around while she shops. No one confuses them with action stars.

Really? You have any proof? B/c I don't see a whole lot of clamoring for women to grow their hair that long except from you.

As I pointed out, Demi Moore looks worse w/ hair that long.
Jane Seymore may have rocked it, but while she was definitely attractive, she's nowhere near the top of the list for female beauties.
My old college friend--the one whose fanfiction I linked, if you remember--was my inspiration. She had butt-length hair back then, and it was a GORGEOUS auburn. Now her hair is calf-length, still auburn, and it is scrumptious.
People, especially men, were ALWAYS stopping her to tell her how beautiful it, and she, was. Several times when we were hanging out, men would actually come up to her--while they were out with women!--and ask her questions about how she cared for it, did it give her headaches, was it really high-maintenance, etc. Then they'd go back and the woman they were with would look incredibly sour...
She had her pick of the single men, and she could be choosy. Now she's married to a great guy and has four kids, and her hair is still super-long and gorgeous. Her husband actually said, in my presence: "I have nightmares about her cutting it."
Like I said, she inspired me, so I grew out my hair. Mine is knee-length and dark blonde, and now that I've stopped frumping with my clothes and make-up, I get lots of attention, too.
Especially one man's attention. I think he's developed a fetish. I pretty much only care what he thinks now, but the other attention is just icing, y'know?
Maybe we just ran into a lot of cultists. *wink*
Really? You have any proof? B/c I don't see a whole lot of clamoring for women to grow their hair that long except from you.
Well, seeing as you were the one to say "a majority", Dr. Torch, I think the burden of proof is on you to provide statistics.
Really? You have any proof? B/c I don't see a whole lot of clamoring for women to grow their hair that long except from you.
I can't prove the sun will come up tomorrow, but I'm pretty certain about it. I hate to get into logical nitpicking, but usually the person making a claim about a "majority of men" is the one to provide the proof, especially when he's contradicting all the other men commenting.
There's a difference between "don't like waist-long hair" (what you said before) and "are not clamoring for waist-long hair" (what you're saying now). You can prefer something without clamoring for it.
"And this makes men desire to look upon you?"
Dunno. You'd have to ask my beta orbiters, Io and Ganymede.
So you have short hair and are fat on a planetary scale. Bravo. Most women are unwilling to admit of such things, especially of having no interest in being appealing to men.
"I would consult a physician before administering such a shock, were I you."
I'll trust my own judgment with that particular large animal.
What a sentiment to hold toward your own husband.
"Yes, but what of hamsters?"
What part of 'large animal' is hanging you up? You'll have to shave them yourself.
Ah, but shaven hamsters are almost as unsightly as planet-sized women with short hair. I should never do such a thing.
Problems with hair once it starts growing longer than waist-length:
1. It's harder to maintain the appearance of good grooming.
2. It covers up the body.
3. Visually, sometimes long straight lines detract from overall appearance (this one highly dependent on the woman).
4. It gets in the way during sex.

All the other men...meaning you. BTW, I did provide some evidence, if you can understand it. A compilation of 50 women widely regarded as beautiful. Note that the creator didn't say anything like "they'd be better looking w/ waist length hair." In fact many on the display had fairly short hair.
Note that "Rita Hayworth would be better looking w/ waist length hair" was said by no man ever.
I don't claim your preference for this is "wrong" in any way; it's simply your preference. But I can say that your claim of "most men prefer waist length hair" is factually wrong. And B's point #3 is extremely relevant.
Stick by your guns, oh haters of hair that is much too long to be kept in an attractive style or state.
Sometimes it is right to suffer for your principles.
"That eliminates the "easy to care for" bonus, even if it is good. "
No, not really. You shave your face daily, do you not? Just keep going over the top with the same shaver. It does not have to be a production.
Where are the feminists claiming beauty is subjective at?

Do you even care what anyone else thinks, or is this all about you?
And considering how you act like disagreeing with you is a personal attack, should I assume you're saying MY hair is gross and ugly and get all bent out of shape?
solipsism. enjoy it with a nice wine.
Mina, darling, I'm still confused how this comment:

sigh.
There is a place between "much too long / unkempt" (not pretty) and "much too short / pixie" (not pretty) yes?
The point being: that is probably where attractive hair length/style is found.
Certainly not 2.5 feet of hair / farm girl / split ends / in a braid every day. There cannot be any person anywhere who finds that any more attractive than a pixie
Was made after the comment I posted (speaking to Vox):
The English philosophers' song has been stuck in my head all day TVM "You don't know oh oh..."
It's like that one song, how does it go?
"Baby bunny hop hop a bipity boo..."
I even expressed my confusion. You didn't respond. Why is that?
What kind of wine did you enjoy with that?
solipsism 2.0
keep going. I'm sure there's more.
"I know you are but what am I" lost its currency back in, like, the 80's, Mina. Just sayin'.

"First, many men have been indoctrinated by feminism to say that they like short hair. It's like when they say they like a woman who's "strong and independent." They don't really."
Harsh realm! and yet so true.
How many times have I heard females whingeing about how "you just can't handle a strong independent woman".
I prefer them passive and obedient. Not "sassy", definitely not "sarcastic", and I run like the wind from "whip-smart."
n e ways. My wife sometimes sends out feelers about cutting her hair, which I stomp on ruthlessly. I like hair that frames the face, and that's that.
"strong and independent"
You know, it's kind of funny, but I recently re-read the "Little House" books. There are a lot of things I didn't pick up the first time around, but one of them was certainly that Caroline Ingalls was an incredibly resourceful, intelligent, and self-controlled woman, and she could handle things while her husband was away.
How many women today can make a functioning lamp out of a button, a piece of flannel, and some axle grease? How many women would have the almighty guts to stay calm and walk slowly away from a frickin' BEAR?
Of course, she wasn't "sassy" or "sarcastic", a pit-bull in lipstick, so I guess that doesn't count. Phooey, I'd rather be Caroline Ingalls than Sarah Palin any old day of the week.
Shhh, Susan Walsh might hear you,...

Sigyn: Glad you got that out of your system.
@ Mina: Yep. Now we just need to find a way for you to get all the attention you crave without being a disruption, and we'll be set.
Rollo sure follows Susan Walsh around with zeal. Wherever she goes, he's sure to slink along in her wake.
"So you have short hair..."
Hit.
"...and are fat on a planetary scale."
Miss. At 5'1"/107, I'm pretty much the Little Red Spot.
"Ah, but shaven hamsters are almost as unsightly as planet-sized women with short hair. I should never do such a thing."
But seriously, this is the best you can do? You need to put down the Little Golden Book edition of "Playground Comebacks for Gammas" and practice awhile in the mirror. Until then, thanks for playing. Drive home safely.
"Miss. At 5'1"/107, I'm pretty much the Little Red Spot"
...which is three times the size of the Earth. Congrats, tubs.
"Rollo sure follows Susan Walsh around with zeal. Wherever she goes, he's sure to slink along in her wake."
Yeah, who follows around a popular blogger, mocking them as he goes? Nobody EVER does that.
"...which is three times the size of the Earth."
You're thinking of the Great Red Spot, genius.
"Yeah, who follows around a popular blogger, mocking them as he goes? Nobody EVER does that."
Lots of people do it, genius. And Rollo is one of them. In any event, I like Vox Day. Even read a book of his.
I was out last night at a social event, where there were two beautiful twin girls, similar floral dresses and makeup. The only difference is that one has a pixie cut, while the other has below shoulder length hair. I've seen them before, and the pixie one used to have hair down to her low back.
The male attention on them couldn't be starker. Pixie had maybe a handful of dances all night and mostly sat by herself while her sister was busy from start to finish with all kinds of men going up to chat with or ask her for a dance.
If women want to repel men, I can hardly think of anything more effective than cutting their hair short. Those twins would still be beautiful and attract men if they wore bum clothes, no makeup or even painted their faces with mud, if they had long hair.
"You're thinking of the Great Red Spot, genius."
Fair enough, you're only as large as one Earth
"Lots of people do it, genius. And Rollo is one of them. In any event, I like Vox Day. Even read a book of his."
Good lord you're dense
Sigyn,
I read the Little House books when I was a kid. The distinction you draw between the modern and classical versions of "strong, independent woman" is right on the money.
How many women would have the almighty guts to stay calm and walk slowly away from a frickin' BEAR?
When I was a young girl growing up in northern British Columbia, our house was situated on the edge of undeveloped Crown Land. My mom, apparently momentarily forgetting where we lived, threw out some meat wrappers in the garbage one evening. I left the house the next morning to walk to school, closed the back door behind me, turned around, and there's Mr. Black Bear rummaging through our garbage not five feet away. Dad still talks about my little-kid aplomb, as I calmly went back into the house and answered his quizzical look with, "Yikes, a bear." (He thought I was mistaken and that it was probably just a dog. Oh, vindication was sweet.) Now as cool and calm as I was, my little brother did me one better. Dad barely managed to catch him as he came flying down the stairs and out the door, squirt-gun in hand, ready to do battle with the bear.
"Good lord you're dense"
About 5.5 grams per cubic centimeter, apparently. You, on the other hand, bend light.
Much worse than the short hair is crack whore skinny.
