Transgender Kiwi weightlifter Laurel Hubbard's first win in an international competition has ruffled feathers across the Tasman. Hubbard was competing at the Australian International event in Melbourne on Sunday and shot out to an early lead in the women's over 90kg division.Everyone loves equality right up until the moment that it bites them in the behind. It is rather amusing, though, that women have somehow managed to put themselves in a position to ruin women's sports through their ruthless dedication to sexual equality.
The 39-year-old lifted 123kg in the snatch discipline, and then produced a clean-and-jerk lift of 145kg for a 268kg total - 19kg better than the second-placed competitor.
Hubbard was congratulated by her competitors after the ceremony.
However, afterwards, bronze medallist Kaitlyn Fassina was less effusive.
"She is who she is. That's the way the politics...and what the New Zealanders have decided. I can't say much more than that. She is seen as female and that's the way it is."
Two-time Olympian Deborah Acason went further.
"If I was in that category I wouldn't feel like I was in an equal situation. I just feel that if it's not even why are we doing the sport?"
I don't see how anyone who believes in equality can justify the existence of men's and women's sports in the first place.

I don't know why transgenderism should be a requirement.
Roger Federer should just claim he identifies as a woman whenever he holds a tennis racket. Say hello to fifteen more years of championships.

you aren't REALLY surprised that Feminists are prejudiced against testosterone, are you?
"She" is one ugly-ass "woman" that's for sure.
They should at least insist such creatures go all the way and have the entire msle package removed. How bad do you want to win as a woman?

Given the physical destruction women body-builders chose to pursue once the standards of men's competition seeped into the women's, you might be surprised at the lengths to which people with personality disorders will go to obtain even five minutes of notoriety.
We live in indescribably self-destructive times.
Sports, originating (we assume) as demonstrations of peak human ability, have universally become caricatures of human attributes.
Then again, caricature could be used to describe our monetary, economic and political systems, too. Maybe that will be the label future historians will assign to this epoch.
I swear this was a Brady Bunch episode. Except they made Peter join the Girl Scouts. Anyway, the writers could see the, er, writing on the wall.. even back then..
Well, they could always allow the actual women to use steroids. That would give them a leg up - just ask Hope Solo.
Or they could censure, strip of award, and even jail Hubbard for having "performance enhancing drugs" for testosterone levels during competition.
Puts paid to the lie of gender (as an extra-linguistic concept), equality, and trans whatevers.
You can't eat your cake and have it, too. Make a choice.
As ever, I tend towards d.c.'s position wrt social mood, money, etc. I don't mind women's sports in general. Being active and fit is a good thing in our scantily clad world, where even 40 yo moms have to look like 18 yo high school students in order to get FB or Insta likes (::rollseyes::).
I live and sometimes work in gym culture. I like to stay fit and strong. I enter PL comps now and then as a means of personal benchmarking. There are always other women stronger than me. But young men, two age groups below me, and any number of weight classes around me, will put up numbers well beyond anything I could hope to achieve.
But I'm not going for a medal so I suppose it means less to me. There's a kid at my gym, 22, lifts in the 60kg class, half a swish or just a fashion victim if I ever saw one given his apparel but whatever. He's respected. Outlifts many men and women in the gym. The female power lifters WOULD DIE to be his weight but have that strength...do you KNOW what that would do for a woman's numbers and physique?
RELATIVELY speaking, women's strength sports is a growing field. Agree or disagreement with purpose and execution, it's happening. Women will have to decide upon which fence they sit, and then, which way they will lean.
I cannot compete against even teenaged boys. I cannot compete against men matched by weight and age. Ivan only compete against other women... and that's the Indian burn, innit it?
I can't wait until all sports are declared coed.
They'll get around facing the writing on the wall by enforcing 50% of the team be women though.
I'm going to laugh when some small nation puts out a bunch of "women" as their "Women's National Team" and beats the panties off of a bunch of lesbians to win the Women's World Cup. Even a bunch of Thai ladyboys would have a shot at it considering how badly national teams compare to male youth players.
Vox, you got any posts on how a parent can raise his daughter in a way that lessens her likelihood of being a feminist?
Cecil Henry, your Dr. Oliver quote is eye opening. Thanks.
"Everyone loves equality right up until the moment that it bites them in the behind."
Indeed. None of this language bears up to even the gentlest of prodding. One puff and the whole edifice collapses. I expect all this to blow up big time at the 2020 Olympics. If so, it will make it vastly more interesting than the last one (which I had to Google because I'd forgotten where it was held).
"I don't see how anyone who believes in equality can justify the existence of men's and women's sports in the first place."
Exactly! And the consequence of integrated sports is that most of the time the best female is forth or fifth behind the best male contestant.
