Gamma solipsism

JW points out something it is important to keep in mind when dealing with Gamma males. And remember, most, though not all, SJWs are Gammas.
Speaking as someone who, much like the classic SJW, finds lots of things "triggering" seeing the picture of Vox with wife and also listening to his voice is jolting to me. I think its because, much like the SJW, I always suspect that deep down everybody is like me and completely insecure, and that this blog is actually written by somebody with deep insecurity. When it becomes clear that it isn't it is a mini-shock to me.
His comment about my voice is particularly interesting because I don't have a deep bass I AM ALPHA voice. I'm a tenor and I have a mildly sibilant S, which is why you'll never hear me reading my own audiobooks. It's quite common for people to be surprised by it after a radio interview, as these comments from last night's podcast about Sad Puppies demonstrate.
  1. Vox, your voice is very different then I expected. I always thought of you sounding like George C. Scott in Patton
  2. My son said "That's Vox? I always hear Darth Vador's voice when I read him."
And yet, JW still found my voice "jolting". Why? Because I am fundamentally at ease with myself. I'm confident in my strengths, I'm accepting of my weaknesses, and I don't have many illusions about myself. And most of all, JW could hear that I didn't have anything to hide and that I genuinely possess confidence in myself.

Confidence is so foreign to the Gamma that they can't imagine it actually exists. That's why their attempts to ape it are so often jarringly off; it is like a blind man attempting to draw a unicorn.

Gammas are insecure and solipsistic, so they will tend to project their insecurity onto you. Remember, they cannot distinguish between feigned confidence and the real thing. It's not a problem, at least not for you, although their inability to take you at your word can sometimes be annoying.

I remember being surprised by your horrible voice. Though after working with many Minnesota..ans.. I was mostly surprised by your lack of an accent. Has Spacebunny retained hers? Nothing quite like a nice gal from Wiscaaansin dontchanoowww

C'mon - "horrible?"

I'm a radio producer. I know what horrible sounds like and it ain't Vox.

His voice is in the upper range; however, he makes points well and has good intonation. He'd fit in fine on a local talk or NPR station with a little practice.

You don't know horrible until you've tried to make some authors sound good in an interview. Or do "man on the street." Those are often unintentionally hilarious.

I was actually more surprised by Correia's voice, to be honest. He actually just does sound like your average, excitable nerd (in a good way). But in both cases you guys spoke clearly and confidently, which carries far more weight.

It's partly from living on the East Coast, then growing up in Minnesota. I can still remember my parents mocking eeDIEna, which puzzled me, since that's how you say it in Minnesota.

It's also partly the fact that I speak at least a smattering of five other languages. I do have a very strong American accent in Italian, less so in German.

It's difficult to credit their cunning tactics as deliberate strategy when they seem so clueless about this projection. When someone says: "He just said that because...." or "He's just doing that because...." - how does he not know that it reeks of projection?

I wish Larry Corriea had the balls to admit the reason he started the Sad Puppies campaign was that he just wanted a Hugo so fucking bad. - Scalzi

Clearly this is solipsism and projection and he is stating that were he to do what Larry did, this is why he'd do it, since, in his mind, everyone is motivated as he is motivated. If it is not this, then it is an attempt to convince the reader that he has psychic powers?

It is disturbing, though, the numbers of individuals who don't question this and rather seem to relish the gossip unaware their own intelligence has been insulted.

This is the primary reason that Gammas are often indistinguishable from women, especially online. They are both solipsistic to varying degrees.

It also explains why they are unattractive to most women. Most women do not want to date other women.

"Because I am fundamentally at ease with myself."

This is something I've never been and I tend to think only certain "types" of people are. So when a guy doesn't seem to fit into the ranking position I've put him in I'm looking to find where the leak is. "He can't be like this so he's hiding something" that sort of thinking. "This guy can't be happy with his lot surely". Once I identify that there is some insecurity there I feel better, can relax more. Anybody who has below average wife/girlfriend, or proven limited experience with women is someone I never feel threatened by. If he has though I just feel beaten.

I find it near impossible to have any sort of conversation with someone I regard as "superior" to me without some sort of "triggering" happening. I need the ice broken in some way otherwise I'm frozen. I'm utterly obsessed with status, particularly my own. Not in essence, or in some overall ranking system but just in the moment. So when I feel I'm beat in some utterly petty way, for example theres a good looking woman nearby and he "comes across" as more confident than me or better looking I go into brain hijack. What wrecks me is that at the same time this sort of thing is happening I'm aware its my own nature and not anybody elses fault.

While I may get stroppy at times, particularly where beer is involved, I mostly have looked to avoid anything thats "triggering" hence zero/little personal development. It appears the SJW look to legislate this away. The SJW always look to call for daddy when theres any trouble. Someone senior to sort it all out and stop the feelbads. Seems like daddy, in the form of government, is quite happy to oblige their whining for his own ends.

My problem was the opposite. I have a typical "DJ voice" that is deep and baritone. Yet, my gamma tendencies meant I was insecure. It was pretty typically people to say that I was jarring, because my masculine voice didn't fit my gamma (which is really feminine) insecurity.

The voice/persona/looks issue is pretty interesting to me. I listen to a lot of talk radio. When we listen to someone for a while, we build up a preconceived idea of what they'll look like. It's kind of like like reading a book and coming up with the basic physical sketch of this character. And then when we see them for the first time, we're often shocked, because the reality almost always different from the picture we painted in our mind. I mean, it really couldn't be any other way. Of course the reality is going to be different that what we expect. But, nevertheless, we still create those expectations.

Yeah, I heard the podcast. When women go on about certain men having a "seductive" voice, I suspect this is what they're talking about, rather than what we would think women consider seductive (i.e., the I AM ALPHA voice). Your voice did sound like your average American beta male... at first. But it quickly became clear that there was something subtly different about it. My own voice is likewise unimpressive on the surface (quiet, relaxed, and weak, with a nasal tendency -- if I tried to speak Spanish I'd get Portuguese).

Guys need to find other things to induce 'triggering' instead of being envious of what others are doing.

Prayer
Squat racks
Building something
Helping others
(fill in the blank with what triggers you positively)
etc.

Vox, I'm surprised the SJWs weren't "horrified" by you. They seem to find everyone and everything so "horrifying". Pussies.

It's funny because I've seen the opposite happen when a 'alpha' author shows up on radio, where the hearing his voice caused a lot of people to realize that the author was not actually alpha and the persona was entirely put upon. Author Tucker Max wrote about just being alpha and getting all the girls and showing up anyone who challenged him in a series of short stories on his website around ten years ago. At the time, there was no 'manosphere; or much of this sort of thing on the web, and so his website filled an underserved niche and drew a tremendous amount of traffic, with a vibrant message board. Based on this popularity, some of his stories were published and he began to appear in the public eye. He was interviewed by Opie and Anthony, which was the first time I heard his voice.

From the moment he first started speaking, I realized that the whole thing, his whole persona was fake, that this was just a loud-talking bullshitter. This was not an alpha, I don't know quite how to categorize him, but he had a whiny squeaky voice and stumbled over his words trying to maintain his frame, insisting that he was alpha, and just showing the weaknesses and insecurities of a teenager. It was shocking how quickly impressions changed for me about him.

People are quite often critical of their own voices because what most of us are used to hearing is our voice resonating through our own head, which can sound very different from what other people hear. It took me a while to get over that even though I have a relatively deep voice. Most of the time when it comes to people's voices, they are their own worst critic.

Nice interview yesterday BTW.

@victor
The look of shock and dismay that appears on Tucker Max's face when the host says this:

"I think people are a little pissed off because you don't have the videotape. I think that's made a lot of people very uncomfortable, including everybody in this room. LOL"

...says it all. And then they sarcastically pile on about I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell as being a NYT Bestseller. I'm pretty sure based on this that Tucker Max is no higher than Delta, and likely a Gamma... and would most likely be welcome in SFWA.

Matt said...

Tucker Max also made up or stole some of his stories.

Some dumb skank did write an article talking about dating him. He did seem like an absolute piece of shit. Not a real alpha. Just a Roissy Alpha.

Here's the whole Opie and Anthony episode, with considerably more details:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMSwLGt-uX0

The good stuff starts after 30 minutes in. After he ran out of the studio, someone called in afterwords, and apparently Tucker was actually crying and throwing a tantrum in the background.

Yeah, your voice in my ears didn't match your voice in my head. I've listened to the podcast twice to see if I can read your material and hear that voice. Still not there yet.

Hey Vox, at least you don't have a lisp.

"..crying and throwing a tantrum in the background."

There was a lot of this, his fall was slow and painfully embarrassing and involved a failed publishing company and a failed vanity movie on par with Vanilla Ice's "Cool as Ice". By the end most of his message board was openly mocking him for the bullshit and the fake alpha and the posturing. His refusal to acknowledge reality, along the lines of some Gamma behavior as I've seen it described on this website. He ended up posting several angry messages lashing out at his boards, then abruptly shutting them down. It was a real loss of years of accumulated content from a large community along the lines of roosh's board.

The dirty little secret is no man is the alpha. Calling yourself that is just trying to convince yourself you have no weaknesses. Basing your worth off external successes like social interaction, earning lots of money, or how much you score with women doesn't eliminate the interior weaknesses.

God is the alpha...and with His strength it helps me in my weaknesses.

It's all relative, Earl.

I get the impression that Tucker Max only got where he did because he was born into a wealthy family. Rich Gammas have caused all sorts of problems all throughout history.

@Earl
The first Gamma-Alpha fight was when Satan tried to dethrone God.

How many people in the West are unhappier as a direct result of the philosophy of "overcoming" as opposed to acceptance?

One can overdo it either way, but I'd say that Western society has a much greater problem with excessive self-acceptance than it does with excessive ambition and motivation.

Earl Thomas said...

I'm talking about hard core internal weaknesses...the things that can't be overcome by sheer self-will and having better results externally. More on the spiritual playing field. I'm speaking more about sinfulness. Only these things God can take care of through His grace.

The excessive self-acceptance comes from calling your interior weakness something else from what it really is and deluding yourself about it.

In the reverse case there was a woman DJ on 96.3 KFMI in Humboldt County. About thirty years ago. Can't remember her air name - all the DJs there used the same system, real first name + middle name as a last name. Her voice was the sexiest voice I or anyone has ever heard since Odyssyus listened to the Sirens. Then I got a job as a DJ there and met her in person. She had a very nice personality, which I guess goes to show that fat girls have gone downhill in the personality department over the last thirty years.

Anyway, I have a deep voice, but like Vox have a few flaws that I don't particularly like. Still, people have paid me for my voice, and perhaps the difference between Gamma and not-Gamma is the understanding that you don't have to be perfect to be accepted. Everyone has flaws, don't let that debilitate you.

Back in the 90's I was working on a CD-ROM version of the King Jame's Bible. We got James Earl Jones to narrate parts of it. When he was reading Genesis, he simply could not say the word "firmament." Came out like "fimmimint." Yeah, sure, we laughed a bit, but he just smiled, said "let's do that again" and eventually got a usable take. Nobody's perfect. If people can laugh at Darth Vader's voice, it's okay for you to laugh at your own mistakes.

"Vox, your voice is very different then I expected. I always thought of you sounding like George C. Scott in Patton"

The irony being that the real George Patton had a high-piched, nasal voice - think James Cagney. And he was as Alpha as you could get.

Daniel said...

David Prowse is a tenor, too, by the way. I'm just surprised there's this much analysis of a normal voice. I actually never thought about voices having a socio-sexual association, except of course, in the movies, which is entirely tied to differentiation from the foley work and resonance. The only people who need a Hollywood "alpha" voice are those who are trying to portray, rather than be, an alpha.

Just look up a recording of Patton or Prowse, and remember that James Earl Jones was a fatherless stutterer. That should dispel any false associations of status with voice. Note also that a bass voice is actually a physical detriment in a quarterback; one which he has to overcome for play calling once the crowds get particularly loud.

darrenl said...

I don't hear the "jolt" in your voice, Vox. That's probably due to being a podcaster for so long. I've gotten over the whole voice/looks mismatch.

That being said, you should do more podcasting.

I'm pretty sure Mike Tyson wins the sweepstakes for disjoint between physical presentation and voice.

After a couple decades, it's STILL jarring to hear him open his mouth.

I wouldn't describe your voice as ringing with confidence either. If I were feeling a bit mean, I'd describe it as Wally Shawn attempting a Bob Newhart impression. Though I should talk, so to speak - I sound like Wm. F. Buckley trying to do Clint Eastwood but coming closer to David Byrne, or possibly David Byrne trying to do Bill Buckley's voice.
