The first Chinese woman to fly a J-10 fighter was remembered fondly on Sunday as a “golden peacock” after her death on Saturday in an air training accident. Yu Xu, 30, died when her double-seater J-10 crashed in Hebei province. Her male co-pilot ejected in time. Yu’s classmates described her death as a “shock”, with some observers calling for higher training standards for aerobatics pilots. Yu, born in Chengdu, Sichuan province, was one of the 35 women recruited as trainee pilots in July 2005.Or, you know, higher standards. Apparently Hultgreen-Curie Syndrome is cross-cultural.

Hultgreen-Curie in China
Death of China’s first female J-10 fighter pilot Yu Xu sparks call for more training

There is a tendency to think of China as a patriarchy; and to an extent it may be. However, women predominate in universities, and wives control their husbands. One girl was shocked when I told her that I didn't ask permission, I told her what I was going to do. Men couldn't have a beer because their wife didn't want them to, etc.
Silver lining to an otherwise dark cloud: H-CS ensures that any woman who would so foolishly pursue such a career eliminates herself from the gene pool (think of it as a more elegant and refined path to a Darwin Award).

Something else to "thank" Chairman Mao for.
The "Great Crash Downward".
Monkey see, monkey do, monkey crash prane oh no.
@liberranter: It sure is an expensive way to eliminate crappy genes.

Indeed. In this case Hurtgleen-Culie Syndlome.
When you're all done gloating and snickering, could someone explain to me why there are so few female pilots? Not fighter pilots; I understand that those need a level of aggressiveness and competitiveness rarely found in women. But why have I never seen a woman pilot on a commercial flight, or heard about one flying a private plane? It doesn't require a lot of upper body strength, or a mathematical mind, does it? And women tend to be more risk-averse than men; isn't that something you'd want in a commercial pilot?
I'm sure there's an explanation, something I'd probably be aware of if I'd ever flown a plane. Whoever can supply it, thanks in advance.
There are some female pilots. Some are probably adequate to the task, too. It does require intelligence and you have to know math fairly well from what my male pilot friend told me. Not very advanced math, but nonetheless...
I'd say it has something to do with details, situational awareness, reflexes, and decision making in a crisis. Many women are not very good at taking stock and making quick decisions in a crisis situation IF and/or WHEN the action required is one technical or tactical in nature.
Women are poor tacticians. The stress of it crumbles them to dust, further incapacitating any critical thinking for the purposes of averting disaster.
The very aggressive women who are determined to prove themselves will make even worse decisions for the sake of Being Right even when she's wrong. Women determined to be right are dangerous.
Risk aversion is a very bad quality in a pilot. People who are risk averse will never want to be a pilot in the first place, so that screens out most people and nearly all women. Then, a risk averse pilot will make too many unnecessary decisions when it doesn't count, but will fail to act or will overcompensate when it does count.
Women aren't common as pilots because women have awful spatial awareness compared to men. Needless to say when it comes to maneuvering a plane in 3D dimensions and intuiting drag, turning radius, and the like, the best men are far beyond the best women.

Rex, I have flown a couple of times with a woman drving. Excellent flights, but there were no emergencies, so..
My Dad reminds me that when he flew with the RAF in WW2, replacement aircraft were flown to the squadron from the factory by women (he remarked that they were often lookers).
Apart from the spacial awareness etc problems mentioned above, I can think of two other factors:
First, an airline pilot's job takes the pilot away from home a lot, causing disruption to family life which a mother or homemaker may not take for long. cabin crew ladies leave for marriage a lot.
Second, there is an economic problem. Most pilots pay for their own training, at least initially. They have to work a long time to pay back the costs, so back to my first point - men give up more family life for a salary to keep the family. Also, there is a snakes and ladders thing going on in the industry: if you are laid off, your new airline takes you on as the most junior pilot in the fleet.
At least the male survived. Maybe he should have been the pilot, not co-pilot, just saying.

Yeah, seriously. He lucked out. He could've been this guy.
The perils of white knighting/pretending that human biology is a social construct...
I thoughr that the lack of female commercial pilots was because many commercial pilots got their start and training in the military. So the starting pool was heavily skewed make. I remember reading that, but it was many years ago.
Literally, every time I've been in an emergency situation the women there freaked the f*ck out and were useless. Even had an EMT there one time and she was useless for 60-90 seconds.
Another issue is reaction time. Few women have fast reflexes, compared to men. I found this out when a young woman tried to hit me (she was hitting my wife, I stopped her). My reflexes are mediocre, but it seemed like she was moving in slow motion. I've lost too many fights to believe I'm fast, I'm certainly not pilot material - but the young woman was being considered for it.

because you aren't paying attention.

Hultgreen herself was another 'pilot'.

case in point: Danica Patrick

no SINGLE CAR bests a draft at a super speedway.
IF you are running solo and two cars are hooked nose-to-tail
THEN you are NOT running them down
UNLESS the front car has a *major* problem
Danica? she just assumes Hornish tried to wreck her. in actuality, she should have been running away from those two as soon as she was going +5 mph than them. instead she was trying to side draft them.

Or, you know, higher standards.
i kind of suspect she was the best looking woman pilot they had. you disagree?

1) Young men will line up for kick in the balls every morning in order to fly. They will fly for food. They will work stupid long hours for almost no money in order to fly. Young women will not do that. Competitive advantage.
2) Natural aptitude in terms of reflexes and spatial awareness screens out a bunch more.
3) Responsibility. As pilot in command you are completely responsible and it is nature enforcing this. Screw up and you die. No one can help you. Nature did not equip a lot of women with a desire for this level of responsibility and no affirmative action program can keep them alive, so they exercise the smarts God granted and keep out.
So there at least three, and probably more, powerful filters keeping women out of the cockpit. Strangely enough, I have had Cheif pilots tell me they prefer women students as they do what they are told, don't talk back, study the books, and don't take chances. Weird, eh?
By the way if it is a male pilot he sits in a cockpit. Female pilots sit in the box office.
I really don't know what to say about this.

As others have said, many commercial pilots have a military background, and flying fighters does require upper body strength.
http://www.dnaindia.com/india/report-flying-high-why-the-iaf-s-induction-of-three-women-fighter-pilots-is-a-landmark-move-2225149
"Fighter pilots have to display strong leadership qualities and team work in any combat mission. Decisions have to be made in split seconds, especially so at very high speeds and under high forces of gravity in ‘G’ manoeuvres. All Air Forces have only Commissioned Officers as pilots. One has to volunteer to be a fighter pilot and there are no differences in physical and mental standards between men and women. Some concerns include studies in the West that indicate women have 45 to 50% less upper body strength which may make them more prone to fractures and bone injuries. Fighter pilots also require strong muscle tissue along the extremities and abdomen for better ‘G’ tolerance, and a woman’s body structure may have lesser tolerance."
Put a five pound helmet on your head. Now pull nine gees and it weighs 45 pounds. Now turn your head quick to look behind you...
She isn't bad looking.
I wonder how many men in authority she slept with to get to that position.
It isn't uncommon at all for women to trade sex for good marks on aviation flight tests with instructors here in the USA.
Sad she died... ;/ Anyone else sad she died?
Loss of human life is never a good thing. God LOVES all people. Vile sinners we are. Amen.

@Jed, The intent is to highlight that putting people in situations they're not qualified to handle will get them killed. Even if that person has a vagina. The goal is that by mocking those responsible further women wont be put in the same lethal situations. Why mocking, you may ask, it's because those responsible have shown logic has no effect on them.
Besides no women should want to fly. Aircraft were invented by white, cishit males, rendering the whole field sexist and biased against women.

Hey John, I already get all that, okay. I'm in agreement with this being the woman's fault (obviously)as explained in this point and other's comments. Duh.
*MY INTENT* is to actually see who "cares" for the tragic death of a human-being. That's all I care about. Who cares that she's a woman who flew the plane?
I saddened by her sudden death.
Would to God people would show more *COMPASSION* than the skeptical, blatant, insensitive crass criticism attitude with no love attached to it. So yeah, you told me nothing different I didn't already agree with or know.
Also, as a Christian man, in accordance to the Word of God (King James Version Holy Bible [KJV]) women are subservient to the authority of men as saith Law and Nature created by the Almighty.
Biblical Christianity makes it clearer than anyone or anything else the proper roles of men and women in society; as you've just outlined above. Nothing new.
So... are you "considerate" of the death of another human-being who died in such a tragic death? (I am. Sad she died so suddenly. What if such a case happened *TO YOU*? I'm sure you would care then (or not...) Don't know you to say.)
If you do shows you have *EMPATHY*; a good thing. If not, shows someone who doesn't get the big eternal picture. Someone people can't put no trust in.
Lol Of all people here hearing this... I ain't being soft on her cuz she's a woman. Believe me, I'd be the last one to.
You failed the test. Amen.

F that! Compassion is part of what got us into this mess in the first place.
Uniform standards are likely enough.
Lots of people, including many women, aspire to be military pilots. Most don't have what it takes. But, if you screen out all but those best qualified for the training and the mission, the selection pool looks impolitic to the SJW/Cuck crowd. In the US, that means heavily white and male. In China, I imagine Han men.
So, the Cucks lower the standards to diversify the selection pool and put pressure on the instructors. Quotas pass whether they deserve it or not.
Over a beer after IERW, I asked my Instructor at Rucker why he and his fellow instructors passed women, blacks, and especially, black women - who were clearly a danger to themselves and others. His answer was simple and sensible.
"If I give them your check ride, they wash out. Then I'm the guy who won't pass minorities. Next, I'm gone and my replacement passes them. No thanks. I like this job."
Re: Rex
Three additional reasons from my experience as a pilot and working in aviation:
1. Flight training emphasize a lot of mechanical and technical knowledge involving the aircraft, navigation and weather. You can't just feel your way through them, and the testing requirements don't pass you for being cute.
2. Flight training requires that you solo (fly by yourself) after about 20 hours of training. This can be an exhilarating experience if you are confident and skilled; or a very scary brush with death because no one can take over for you.
3. Owning your own plane is either very expensive or requires a high level of mechanical skill (if you build your own aircraft). Most women would rather spend the money on shoes or don't have the skill to build their own plane.
