In fact, any time you hear the phrase "that just proves" or "that only proves" from a man, you can be relatively sure you are dealing with a Gamma.
Women test men by challenging their overtures and provocations, whether they are genuinely offended or not. The Delta response is a sincere apology. The Gamma response is a "please don't hurt me" pantomime.
The Alpha response is a sardonic "What?"

In my gamma coward days, "just kidding" was my go to. I'd say something sarcastic/insulting/retalitory. When it would anger a woman or higher ranking man, I would say "just kidding." It was a plea to them not to retaliate or respond.

My imagination is running wild guessing what he said or did that evoked her "you're incorrigible" look and his grovel.
I like to think that he made a pass at her 13 year old daughter and her rage quickly settled to mild scolding when she realized that he is just a pesky spaz and not a physical danger to anyone.

Not me, it disgusts me that any man is willing to sink that low. He's a walking warning sign of what a man can come to if he is not serious. Even death would be preferable to his existence. That he is willing to accept such humiliation and contempt is a horror.

What does it indicate if the response is incomprehension? I really don't grasp lots of prototypical women's behavior beyond finding it stupid or pointless. MPA not idiots, they're herd-animal puppets on strings.
Then again, I'm used to being >8" taller than the average woman so looking down on them from above is as natural as breathing. When a female manager was being a PITA my norm was simply to stand a few inches closer than normal to force her neck in a less comfortable position to look me in the eye. This worked for PITA male managers as long as they were short, too.

Though the sigma response is to ignore the women for a moment and to point out to VD that sometimes "that only proves" means that he hasn't given up on his opponent yet. Sigmas - and a few betas and omegas - seem to be the only ones capable of proof anymore.
They are rare but hazardous for people who mistake them.
