A 24-year-old aspiring actress has been filmed being catcalled 108 times as she strolled around New York City - even though she was wearing a plain T-shirt, jeans and sneakers. Shoshana Roberts, a graduate of Kutztown University in Pennsylvania, was captured on a hidden camera by her friend, Rob Bliss, as she walked through the city's streets. Over a ten-hour period, she was pelted with dozens of unsolicited comments, including: 'What's up beautiful?', 'Hey baby', 'Smile' and 'Have a nice evening darling'.Unsolicited compliments and greetings? It's almost rape! It's worse than the Holocaust!
"Miss Roberts wrote: "This happens daily to so many people. We don't put up with harassment in school, at home, or at work, so why should we have to put up with it on the street?"
She's right. They shouldn't. So, the next time a strong, independent woman you don't know looks to you for help in public, just smile, tell her you don't harass women, and walk away. And if she tries to talk to you, tell her to stop harassing you.
The ironic thing is that these men have it all wrong anyhow. They'd be much more likely to get a response from her if they glanced at her and laughed, rolled their eyes, or sniffed dismissively. Street neg, one might say.

She clearly just doesn't want black guys talking to her. What's the rhetorical play here Vox? Does the racist card still work on swpls?
I don't seem to run into any of these people in real life.
I've lived my entire life in the Pacific Northwest, including Vancouver BC, Seattle Washington, and Portland Oregon. I've never seen nor heard a woman being catcalled, not once. On the other hand, I've had a car full of college girls give me the "hey baby!" treatment as I walked down the sidewalk in Seattle once. I was 37 or so at the time, and I'm still not sure what to make of that, though it certainly didn't offend me.
I think the "problem" has more to do with New York City than anything else.
Someone should remind her how quickly she will outgrow the problem.
Carnaby, those cities you've lived in aren't really the same as most of the cities in the rest of the country. The ghetto isn't full of white gamma males...
The more we ignore them, the more they want us. Amusing creatures.
And while we're at it, when are women going to stop checking out our musculature and assessing the bulge in our jeans?
The wall, went it comes, is going to be so very hard.

"I've lived my entire life in the Pacific Northwest, including Vancouver BC, Seattle Washington, and Portland Oregon."
Would I be correct in guessing that a tall, fit man with solid Game, masculine demeanor, and 'badass' vibe could pretty much clean up with the SWPL women in these cities?
OK, so I have seen the video... and I am having a hard time believing that she received over 100 instances of street harassment. The makers of this video might be counting harassment multiple times for the same offense (example the one dude walking beside the woman for 5 minutes, they broke it up into multiple segments). Some "harassment" may not have been targeted at her if there were multiple women around her, etc. I am having a hard time buying it.
Even if she did get 100 instances of "harassment" (according to them, includes winks, stares, looks, whistles, etc.) in 10 hours: That's 10 instances of "harassment" in an hour. Woop de friggen do.
These people complaining about "harassment" now are going to be the same people bitching they are not getting any of that "harassment" they so crave post meeting The Wall.
I think there was one white guy in the entire video. His entire harassment consisted of saying "hi". Every other guy in the video was distinctively vibrant.
even though she was wearing a plain T-shirt, jeans and sneakers.
In other words, clothes that show off every curve of her body to greatest effect, so that everyone who sees her can tell from a mile away just how large and perky her goodies are. If her great-grandmother could see her, she'd be scandalized that she's going outside practically naked. But no one should notice, because culture.
Vox,
See the latest lie. Never trust what a woman's word
a friend who went through an incredible amount of tragedy at a young age, way more than the average woman. shes beautiful, and men call out to her all the time. i have never once heard her complain about it or write an angry article about it. because she understands that life can be unbelievably heartbreaking and this kind of marshmallow shit is not that important.
The day the catcalls finally stop will be far more traumatic for her than the catcalls have been.
Up here in SWPL country, it is still black men who will comment more than white men but their comments are very polite: "You look very nice today, Miss." was the last one I heard while shopping. We actually get more comments by black women here than anyone else (we is my daughters and I, being smack up against the wall myself, my daughters draw the majority of the attention). Black women heap on the compliments.
"Unsolicited comments" - haven't women also complained when they have to initiate? Wait, silly me. Men should just know if they are the type that women want unsolicited comments from.
You're supposed to wear baggy clothes and a hoodie so no one can see your face. I suppose this is what regular women face, but the world has already changed. Men are not required to be polite to women as in chivalry so catcalls are no different than name calling. The only way to shame men is collective punishment. Any man off-the-street is in no position to be shamed. This is especially telling with this Internet campaign. "Look at what just happened to me!!!" Who cares.
I'm with Cail. She's a curvy young lady who is showing off every curve God (or the plastic surgeon I guess) gave her, and she's surprised she's attracting creeps like rotting food attracts flies....exactly why?
Plus, it strikes me that her outfit--all dark--is quite different from most of those worn by other ladies in the film. Tighter, darker.....I wonder if she's inadvertently sending a message that is well understood in that part of town. Something like "I'm an out of work actress with a few extra pounds from outside Gotham", or something like that.
"Hi" is harassment if you don't know the person, apparently.
Here's a question: who the hell does she think she's fooling? You don't dress like that unless you want attention. Skin tight jeans are NOT comfortable.
She has America's foreign policy: she's trying to hit a target; any collateral damage is their own fault, not hers.
The poor thing ! but in a couple of decades she will be sexually invisible and all her problems will be solved.
If you go to the article, you'll notice there's another picture of her wearing something much more modest -- a bit of cleavage, but she appears to be wearing a dress, and looks much more feminine rather than sexual. She still looks nice, but in an "I'd like to get to know her" way instead of an "I see London I see France" way. Had she gone out like that, she wouldn't have gotten nearly the catcalls -- but then that was the point, wasn't it.
I've seen this before, done by some flemish chick in Brussels. Conclusion: vibrants being vibrant.
Political correctness being shoved down our throat. What happened to affirmative action?

She'll hit the wall pretty soon. Sooner rather than later when considering the flab she is already sporting at a relatively young age.
"I've had a car full of college girls give me the "hey baby!" treatment"
That's true, I've had that happen more than a few times, sometimes with nasty looking cougars and kreugers. Once a girl in the passenger seat pulling into a parking lot in front of me where I was walking rolled down the window and said "Rock out with your cock out." Another time after a day tubing on a river a random girl looking for a ride back to her car started talking to me about her "booty shorts" and pulled them down real quick to show me her thong. Traumatizing.
On a somewhat tangential note, what the heck is up with this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXOtYPcC4tQ
Yes, I was indeed embarrassed for the men here. This is why.
"If I give you my number, will you talk to me?"
Well it at least it cuts out a lot of pointless conversation.
Guy: Lay your digits on me.
Girl: Ummm...I'm really, really busy right now. Why don't you give me your number?
Guy: Sure baby! (*She's in love! she wants to have my baby! *)
Girl: Thanks! (*Thank God that's over with*)
"Am I too ugly for you?
Well of course you are but that is utterly beside the point.
It's variant on another line I've never once seen work. "Am I too dark for you?" Look, self disqualification is Gaming 101. But it has to be done with a smile and bit of energy. Mumbling that, while you text, is neither of those things. You are making fun of her, not whining about being rejected. It is supposed to be a neg. Treat it like one.
I just saw a thousand dollars.
Acceptable. It was unlikely in that neighborhood but still...All of the basics were there. He didn't have chance in hell on the face of it but you never know. Although their is the possibility that he had taken her for a whore. Instead of an untalented actress.
"Have a good evening. God Bless" (*and then walks silently by her side for five minutes*)
Omega Alert! This was the one guy she had legitimate reason to be a little bit worried about.
The rest are just polite African American salutes to an attractive woman, who might be a prostitute. Nothing to freak out about. If you are woman and like to dress like that but don't like that kind of affirmation of your SMV go to a comic book store and enjoy the asthma attacks.
Bike Bubba - I'm with Cail. She's a curvy young lady who is showing off every curve God (or the plastic surgeon I guess) gave her, and she's surprised she's attracting creeps like rotting food attracts flies....exactly why?
She's not really surprised. The whole point of this is for her to show off without activating her anti-slut defenses.
She also gets special victim status ("harassment") and the ego boost that comes with snootily "tsk-tsk"-ing the uncouth masses.
I just worked out her age. What fuck kind of caring, involved parents would name their little baby girl child after Shoshanna Lonstein?!?!?
On to the important question.
How long until Shoshanna (*sigh*) is driven from her home by rape and death threats?!?!?
Annnd Cataline should have googled before posting that last one.
Shoshanna has already been driven from her home by rape and death threats and is doubtless shivering like a common troll under the Manhattan Bridge...
...Or is snug in bed in her own room, at her parents home in the Hamptons.
One of those...
Anyway...
Rape threats!
Good advice. It is endless male attention that females crave -- and then use to control and punish.
Ironically, it is only the complete removal of male attention that, well, gets the attention of females. The australopithecine catcalling feeds all their agendas: to be desired, to be desired publically, and to use that desire to further enslave maleness. With Faux Outrage on CNN. lol
Lab monkeys display more behavioral independence than U.S. men. They deserve their subjugation. The rest of us, however, do not.
The whole point of this is for her to show off without activating her anti-slut defenses.
And to promote herself to media sites, of course. I assume, without looking, that she's an aspiring or small-time journalist who's hoping to get picked up by a bigger name and get paid to write lots more about how the universe affects her.
“Plain T-shirt, jeans and sneakers”
Uh, yeah. In flyover country, that’s not “plain”, and it’s not just a “t-shirt and jeans”. That’s a skin tight leotard covered with snug skinny jeans, worn for the specific purpose of accentuating every curve and bulge. Those clothes are specifically designed to attract male attention.
"...done by some flemish chick in Brussels. Conclusion: vibrants being vibrant."
Nah, she was probably just teasing the wallonian enrichers.
'What's up beautiful?', 'Hey baby', 'Smile' and 'Have a nice evening darling'.
These are cat calls? Nothing about shaking her money maker?
'What's up beautiful?', 'Hey baby', 'Smile' and 'Have a nice evening darling' sound like variations of "hello" to me.
Okay even the The Slate is raising the bullshit flag on this one.
I do not believe this not faked. She is simply not that attractive.
I do not believe this not faked. She is simply not that attractive.
How dare you suggest an aspiring actress would ever attempt to fake something for publicity. The nerve!
The woman isn't very attractive. Kinda shaped like a bowling ball. Actually, she looks like the kind of unattractive white woman blacks hit on. I suspect she does not know that.
Women of her socio-sexual status, dressed like that, will garner all sorts of attention. She's got huge tits and decent sized hips, and with her virtually skin-tight "t-shirt and jeans", and a face that only rates a 6/7, she is going to garner far more attention than a much prettier, skinnier, and better dressed woman. The lowlifes know what's out of their league, even if some may just try and swing for the fences every once in a while. This woman is not intimidating in any way, shape, or form, and screams lower middle-class, or even staight-up lower class. Lower class with huge tits, a nice slender waist, an ok face, and she's dressed to show it off. A girl who's "studying" something in some local no-name college or even community college, and loves to get fucked by her boyfriend or whoever happens to pick her up at the social/cultural event she's getting drunk or high at. That screams whore. Maybe not first night whore, but second or third week whore, to be sure.
Honestly, she's like lowlife catnip, it's not totally out of the question that they could get lucky with her, what with the signals she's putting out there and with her not being so pretty in the face. It is no wonder she attracted so many catcalls, and from low status socio-economic males.

What's funny is that this won't have the intended effect that this girl hoped. It has already started a new meme, thanks to FunnyOrDie: http://www.funnyordie.com/articles/ebf5e34fc8/10-hours-of-walking-in-nyc-as-a-man
Coming soon to a YouTube channel near you: 10 hours of walking in NYC as a black man, 10 hours of walking in NYC as an asian man, 10 hours of walking in NYC as a mexican man, 10 hours of walking in NYC as an indian man, 10 hours of walking in NYC as a black woman, etc.
I came for the rating...
4 of 5. Not my type + sloppy-level assets.
There's also something aggressive about how she walks that I can't place my finger on, same with her stare.
I've also never actually seen or heard a cat call in public. But again, it's a question of what neighbourhood you go into. A predominantly black neighbourhood obviously can't be taken as a microcosm for males at large, but feminists want it to. Feminists actually 'want' abuse, because it makes them feel justified in making their ludicrous claims. This can also simply be a matter of survival of the smartest - let the sexually aggressive fools who worship the first fertile woman of breeding age to walk past them get arrested for harassment. When they're all locked up and women stop getting attention of any kind, they'll come begging back. That's because one thing women need more than anything is attention, without attention they go insane. They want to feel cared for, and when they have no husband to take care of them, they complain and become feminists to make society care about a plight that doesn't exist. It's just female nature, the way their brains are wired. We can't change it, we can only ignore. :)
@Friedrich Ludovico: That's because one thing women need more than anything is attention, without attention they go insane. . . . just female nature, the way their brains are wired. We can't change it, we can only ignore. :)
And, the vicious loop that is.
Seems like typical negro behavior to me
I don't see much cat calling and the like but when I do it is always a negro
Noticing a decently attractive woman by looking a bit longer than you might otherwise, or looking again, is not a catcall, it's not sexist, and it's not a "trigger".
Saying "hi" or "hello" or "hey" to an attractive woman is not threatening in any way, shape, manner or form.
Saying "have a nice evening" is NOT a catcall.
Saying "What's up" is NOT a catcall.
A young man or group of young men standing on a sidewalk and saying "Hi" or "hello" to decently attractive young women is NOT a catcall, is NOT criminal, and is NOT a threat in any way, shape, manner or form.
And men who are doing any of these things, extending simple courtesies and pleasantries to attractive women, are NOT the problem.
