Alpha Mail: decisions, decisions

LL sends us an example of the decision-making ability of the pre-Shadow of the Wall modern young woman in action from Texts From Last Night:
I just realized that I have to choose between a future orthopedic surgeon and a dude currently in jail. My life is so fucked.
This is, of course, a humblebrag, in which the woman feigns to be dismayed by the fact that she has two, count them TWO, men of relatively high socio-sexual rank who are not only attracted to her sexually, but think she is so wonderfully fabulous that they are attempting to pursue a future with her. One is a quintessential Bad Boy, being "currently in jail", and the other is presumably a societal high flyer, being "a future orthopedic surgeon".(1) Or at least that's what we're supposed to think, as it is much more likely, the guy in jail is only there for two days on a DUI, the future surgeon is actually in nursing school, and neither of them has actually proposed marriage to her

And what any of this has to do with "last night" is a complete mystery. It seems unlikely that she just realized that she can't marry more than one man, or that last night was the first time that either the prisoner or the medical student expressed interest in her.

But what is more interesting is if we take the posturing at face value and contemplate how bad one's decision-making ability has to be if one is seriously torn between "jailbird" and "med student". As one commenter on the text succinctly put it: You're fucked for turning a no-brainer into a "decision".

What we can learn from this is that many women love drama, particularly drama into which they can cast themselves as the central figure. If the drama doesn't actually exist, as I presume in this case, they will manufacture it, then portray even the most obvious choices as difficult dilemmas requiring the wisdom of a Solomon to resolve. Of course, if the conundrum is legitimate, this only underlines Roissy's oft-made point about pre-Shadow women having no long term perspective.

(1) The intrinsic female focus on male professional status is revealed by the fact that ever since Galen gave his first lecture, no woman has ever dated a "med student" or a "law student", merely "future surgeons", "doctors-to-be", and "going to be a lawyers". This is why the average cube jockey should always describe himself as a "future CEO".

I love that site. Any time I start having faith in the general populace, I go there and read a few pages. If there is any website that truly proves MPAI, that is it.

There's a lot packed into that short paragraph. Note how she focuses on the med student's future, but the jailbird's present. He's only currently in jail; surely after he gets out he'll become a model citizen and husband. And the med student will certainly go on to become a surgeon; no chance that he'll fail and drop out or change paths into a less impressive area of medicine. She automatically puts them both in the best possible light, rather than trying to put them in the same context, which is what you do when you're actually trying to make a smart choice.

That last sentence is critical too: "My life is so fucked." I've heard many women put it exactly that way. I submit that most men facing a difficult decision would say, "I am so fucked." Note how she talks about her life as if it's separate from her. She can stand outside it and enjoy the drama, without accepting responsibility for it or acknowledging how directly it will impact her if she lets it go on. She watches her life as if it's a movie, and who wants to watch a movie where the nice boy and girl find each other and settle down in the first 5 minutes? She wants to watch the heroine be tortured by fate for a while first, and only at the last minute overcome it all and become the princess.

She'll probably choose both - marry the surgeon and get banged on the side by the jailbird whenever he's available on conjugal visits, parole, etc.

Totally. What is irritating is how they act schocked when they realize men are not drama queens AND don't enjoy being part of a drama queen's drama.

In the unlikely event her story is true, allow me to interpret:

"I want the money and security that the surgeon would provide, but I'd rather have sex with the jailbird."

The "thought vs. tingle" dilemma that has been around since Eve chose the serpent over her husband--and over God himself.

Many physicians -- especially surgeons -- are assholes. It seems to be a requirement for the job. Assholes are, of course, very attractive to women apart from any money and status. What increases the likelihood that a surgeon's wife will cheat on him is the fact that he won't be home very much. In which case, maybe Mr. Unemployed Jailbird would have his opportunity.

Drama ... drama...

My 40 year old step daughter has been a pretty good mom and a real decent person, and even goes to church. Recently, her and her circle have taken to roller derby (which means) drinking and being amazed at all the behavior of her friends.

They do such amazing things!!!

We've listened to stories of people falling down stairs, puking, philandering, making total assholes of themselves, fighting, pushing, yelling, etc etc etc....

It's all so incredible!!!

and somehow SHE is at the center of these "stories" and is just amazed at all the amazing activity.

Now she's upset with me because I said..."maybe the booze is causing all the bizarre behavior".

Of course not!! That made her feel bad about herself and her friends!! And they're her friends!!! HER friends!!!!

Sigh...I'm holding my breath for a major malfunction....

How clueless does a woman have to be to not understand that if they tell these types of stories to men, meaning prospective husbands, that it is an automatic disqualification?

Even in my blue pill days I DQ'd women because of stupid shit they did, stupid shit they did and then proceeded to tell me about.

Prime example,

thirty-something year old recently divorced mother getting drunk with her best girl friend and then getting into a fist fight with said friend in the middle of a four-way intersection, all over something neither of them could remember clearly. I went to high school with this woman. Never saw this kind of behavior before. Apparently the potential was there all along. Classy.

When she told me about it I was pretty much left speechless. The responsible but fun person that I thought I knew for twenty years essentially disappeared before my eyes to be replaced with an aging out-of-control hard drinking skank.

Let me guess, Westheimer and Fountainview? Or maybe Main and Walker? No wait I know! Washington and Montrose! Where do people party here nowadays?

Amusing. I knew a woman who said she was going to marry a rich man so he could fund her musical career. Didn't happen. Another was a nurse who said she was going to marry a doctor. Didn't happen. They both ended up hostile and blaming their problems on men.

I also know when a lady says she is tired of drama...she is tired she isn't the central figure of the drama. Or she has had the same drama for too long and wants some different drama.

So, off topic question: went to a house party with my girlfriend. Ended up fucking some other girl in the bathroom, girlfriend caught me and flipped out. Luckily, I didn't end things there. Instead I converted it into a three-way with her and the random I'd just fucked. Tick that off the bucket list.

Girlfriend's really pissed now, not talking to me at all. Not a huge deal, I've got other girls on the side, but I do like her. How would you guys go about keeping her?

That last paragraph cleared something I was trying to figure out. 3 weeks ago, I noticed an increase in interest from a coworker. A few days later, one of her friends says she's been talking about me lately, mainly about me being a future engineer. Women are really optimistic.

A drama-girl who gets "tired of the drama" has turned 27 and isn't attracting the "drama" that she used to.

Besides, only a gamma would want to keep her: she's obviously a bisexual slut. ;-)

Well, I'm a future electrician, gonna pull in over 70k/yr plus overtime when I get my ticket in 4 years. Really.

I guess I have a future of living in shitbox van by the river paying 80% of after tax wages for 5% custody. All the while my future ex wife will be neglecting the children while she gets plowed by a liberating selection of bad boys and freeloaders who will be abusing my kids. Rad. I'll buy that for a dollar.

And the baptacostal gigachurch pastor will be screaming in my general direction to man up and remarry that slut. Wisdom calls aloud in the streets and all that.....
