The causality conundrum

One almost finds it hard to know where to begin here:
Noticed a pattern lately of women that have short hair and low sex drives. My wife had shoulder length hair before marrage and an ok sex drive and now it is real short. With that came a much lower sex drive. I have some male friends who seem to have wives with similar trends to mine. I also have friends with girlfriends that have long hair who are having good sex. I have one friend who was recently married to a women with really long hair and I get the impression their sex life is great. I also noticed divorced women who had short hair grow it out (along with loosing weight). And they are desperate to find a man.
This isn't a mystery. Men vastly prefer long hair. Since most women know this on some level of consciousness, a woman who cuts her hair short is either a) a sucker who listens to other women attempting to sabotage her and lower her relative sex rank or b) attempting to indicate that she is not sexually available to men. While women will produce no end of excuses and rationalizations, in most cases, it is one of these two things. It's simply not credible for a woman to claim she cut her hair short because she doesn't have the time to care for it when she is watching an average of 2.53 hours of television per day.

This is why lesbians tend to sport crew cuts or similarly unappealing hairstyles, why women who have declining interest in their partners gravitate towards cutting their hair shorter, why younger women react negatively towards older women who have long gray hair, and why divorced women usually start trying to grow their hair longer.

And it's no mystery why this man's wife chopped her hair off. Any man who ends a public post with the ridiculous acronym "lol" is without question towards the bottom of the socio-sexual hierarchy and her subsequent lack of interest in him naturally reflects that.

The worst is this former large woman at my job. She had short hair and was massively overweight. She got a divorce, lost the weight and grew her hair out and is actually really hot now.

Well, was. Cuz she's cropped it very short again. It's a serious dyke-do.

I tell every woman I know to never cut her hair. I hear every excuse in the book.

Worse, none seem to care what their husbands think in the least.

I bet his wife conveniently forgot to tell him of her lack of sexual interest when she was trying to get him to marry her.

Fact is, if you look hard enough you can find "patterns" or "correlations" in ANYTHING.

Same thing applies when you talk about "Studies" and "polls". If you want to twist the numbers to suit your argument, it's not a stretch to do so.

While I'm sure that women have cut their hair short because of issues with their significant other, I personally know women who have cut their hair short for other reasons. My wife did after our son was born. She IMMEDIATELY regretted it, but the reason behind was the fact the kit constantly pulled it when he was being breast fed, and she was getting headaches keeping it up. Of course after she did it she was pissed...and she's never cut it off again.

And just to skew the "numbers" some more, a buddy of mine is married to a woman who cut her hair off a couple of years ago...actually SHAVED it off....her sister had cancer and lost her hair...so she cut hers off as well. Her hair is still pretty short...and their sex life is fine. Hell I expect him to be on the evening news one night...they're liable to find him dead in in the bedroom.

My wife was raised Mennonite, and has never cut her hair, not since birth. It was the first thing that caught my eye about her. Our sex life is going gangbusters after 20+ years. Can't say it's cause and effect, but...

CBJM: Fact is, you can find exceptions to every pattern. We're talking about women who cut their hair for style/convenience and don't regret it. BTW, there are several styles of updo that will not result in a headache.

The easier-to-maintain argument is bogus. I have had long hair all of my adult life, and most of the time I just wash and go. Unless a woman gets one of those ugly unisex hairdos, shorter hair requires more styling and upkeep than longer hair.

I have a question for the men. I keep hearing two things over and over from other women: 1) I'd look cuter with shorter hair; and 2) When I reach middle age, I should absolutely cut my hair, because older women look ridiculous with long hair.

I have sufficient evidence to know #1 is a lie. However, I want to know if you think older women -- even women in their 60s and 70s -- look better with long hair. Assuming it's healthy-looking, that is.

Vox nails it again. It isn't the hair length that affects the level of desire, it's the other way around.

Stickwick: a thousand times, YES!

Even if it's pure silver, it looks better than short hair.

Stickwick: Assuming it's healthy-looking, I wouldn't recommend any shorter than a shoulder-length-ish bob.

Speaking as a man, long hair at any age is better. For the life of me I don't know what has persuaded this generation of older women to cut their hair en masse. At the church I go to, there is a large retiree population (Florida), and at least 50-60% of the women have these horrible buzz cuts or (worse), the mushroom cut, where it is just long enough on top to fluff out a little, and then short down the back of the neck. I can't imagine a more unflattering cut. It would be better to be completely shaved. Some of these women are in great shape for 60s-70s, due to active retirement living, but somehow they have been persuaded that long hair is undignified at their age. Such a shame...

At the very least, they should wear their hair in a bun or braids or something. There's something about just knowing that the long hair is there that makes a difference. I don't know why. My grandmother always kept her hair in a bun, sort of a Katherine Hepburn look, but every once in awhile let it down, and it was amazing to see these locks of gray-brown hair reaching almost to her waist.

Vox, you're getting old man. "Lol" hasn't been an acronym for almost ten years. Lulz, lolz, lulzy are all words.

Answer to 2) Long silver hair is, in many cases, the last element of beauty to go.

Short silver hair by choice is a concession to the ravages of time, a searchlight that emits pulses of asexuality to the wide world, a full and soulless retreat from womanhood.

Take care of your hair, ladies, and it will take care of you even when every other physical attribute gives up the ghost.

Absolutely you should keep your hair long when it is gray. I remember when I was about 21 and an older couple stopped by the night club in which my friends and I hung out. She was in her middle 50's, had great bone structure and long silver hair, and the effect was gorgeous.

When I was a teenager, and very zealous in my faith, I was only attracted to girls with short hair. I guess even subconsciously, I knew there wouldn't be a temptation to give into the flesh.

Then i dated a girl with long hair, and totally gave into the flesh.

Yes, I see that now.
I agree with your assessment.
Stuff like that makes me cringe.

While I don't over-judge it, I have always thought less of a man when he ends a sentence in "lol."

I should know better than to listen to women's advice, but it's good to know the man's perspective directly.

You're a woman. Look like a woman. If you cut it off you stop looking like a woman. Full stop.

Looking ridiculous is usually a female code word for the viewer feeling uncomfortable. It says nothing about the person being so labeled. It's a word that tells you what the viewer is feeling.
Do you care what these women are feeling? That discomfort is likely envy. Envy as much from how your husband looks at you as how good the hair looks.

Do you stop being a woman when you're 60 years old? Does your husband look at you as if you're 60 years old or does he see the woman he married 40 years ago? The evidence I've seen tells me he is seeing the woman he married 40 years ago in his mind's eye. Cutting your hair just makes it all the harder for him to perform that bit of magic.

This is the crux of the matter, you aren't wearing your hair long for those women. You are doing it for your husband.

The women that are cutting their hair and stridently justifying it are judging other women's opinions as higher than their husband's. It should tell you just how much respect they really have for their husband.

I know a 60 year old woman. Her hair is pure white. But it reaches half-way down her back, and she has stayed slender.

If I didn't fear social opprobium, I would have told her directly she was hot. I am 30. Sadly, she is better looking than the 20-something 5's I've banged.

Ozone Picadelli said...

Oh yes, and she is the mother of 8 children, and a grandmother several times over. Dye her hair blonde, and no-one would think her over thirty. So women that bulk up after childbirth, have NO excuse.

And I agree with the previous commenter who talked about the imagination. Even long-dressed Mennonite/Amish/Hutterite women look sexy with their hair up in a bun, hidden by a bonnet or shawl. We Mennonite men know that in private, they let that hair down and it comes down almost to their butt. They may not show the hair directly, but they SHOW THAT THEY HAVE IT.
