Game and politics

It is a well-known fact that the taller candidate with better hair usually wins the presidential election. Based on this metric, Mitt Romney looks like a sure thing. But is it possible that those aspects of an alpha male are merely stand-ins for the candidates' socio-sexual status? If so, this personal anecdote may explain the tepid response among Republicans to Mitt Romney in 2008 as well as this election cycle:
Tagg didn't get it back then, but now at age 37 he finally understands why his father has been willing to suspend his regimented ways when it comes to his wife. ''When they were dating,'' Tagg says, ''he felt like she was way better than him, and he was really lucky to have this catch. He really genuinely still feels that way, thinks, 'I'm so lucky I've got her.' So he puts her on a pedestal.''
Mitt Romney is a tall, handsome, wealthy man with a big family. But based on this description by his son, he's also Beta at best. That incongruence between his superficial attributes and his genuine persona may explain why male and female voters alike tend to regard him with relative indifference.

Funny. My kid brother has his wife on a pedestal, though he's not a pushover as much as I'd thought at first.

I've been trying to think of some way to push him out of that mentality. I hope I have some success.

Now my sis-in-law seems like a great match for him and she seems to genuinely appreciate his efforts as a husband and father. I just don't see it as constructive in the long term.

Would you consider there to even be any Alphas in the race, currently?

Herman Cain was probably an Alpha, especially considering all his mistresses.

As for Mitt Romney, if people regard him with relative indifference, how do you explain his lead in the polls?

Money, the support of the Republican establishment, and the fact that he's been running for about 7 years now. But based on all that, he should be at around 75 percent party support, not 25 percent.

Would you consider there to even be any Alphas in the race, currently?

Herman Cain definitely. Newt Gingrich has some definite alpha qualities despite being a fat little troll, which may help explain his otherwise inexplicable support, meager though it is.

I do think there is a tendency among Mormons to strive to be betas. Huntsman is the same way. A majority of devout Mormon men see beta hood as their ultimate goal. Alphas have too much pride, and pride is a sin.

It's weird. The church doesn't promote women to high places, but Mormon men always seem to be able to put them on that pedestal.

"That's the point, he IS running a smart race, he HAS a talented campaign, he's not made any mistakes, they STILL don't want to vote for him..." Carville regarding Mitt Romney.

Romney is a bankster puppet just like Obama. What's the point? You're voting out one proven criminal for another proven criminal.

Vox, where would you place Dr. Ron Paul (the only candidate that I'll vote for)in your socio-hierarchy? Just curious.

Republicans don't like Romney due to his RINO-ness; it's got nothing to do with his betatude. He's a leftish, big government technocrat with no more understanding of the founding principles than Kenyan Barry. Romney thinks John Locke was a character on a TV show and he's never even heard of Cato's Letters.

I'd vote for an Omega if he'd promise to "kill the sons of Brutus."

I can't say I've ever paid Romney enough attention to be able to pick him out of a photo line-up. I'd probably confuse him with Huntsman, another one I pay no attention to. I don't watch the entertainment media news, and I either DVR or download all my shows, so I'm immune to political commercials.

I believe the first time I heard Romney's name I also heard about his Taxachusetts socialized health care. I assumed he was a demonican. When I found out he was a republicrat, I still didn't bat an eyelid. I've never considered him somebody I'd vote for, no matter which faction of the bank party he labels himself.

Ron Paul 2012.

Pliny the Younger rolls in his grave at Cato being unknown to modern politicians.

It doesn't hurt that a major tenet of Mormonism is the theoretical [and occasionally practical] but no less worshipful collection of women.

Athor,

I'm sure Romney's heard of Cato at some point in his life, but "Cato's Letters" was a collection of political essays filled with small government, big liberty goodness. These essays were profoundly influential in the evolution of political thought in Colonial America.

Daniel, good point. The way that Mormon men treat their wives, I kind of suspect that polygamy was a punishment.

"Jebidiah Smith, you have been found guilty of crimes against the church. Your punishment will be 7 wives, and no alcohol."

Good Call, Vox.

I've been thinking the same thing about Romney. His mannerisms are BETA all the way.

You could kick him in the balls and call his wife a whore and he'd just smile and try to be your friend.

He's no Ronald Reagan, that's for sure.

The real problem with Romney, to quote Jesse Lacey, "I've seen more spine in jellyfish, and more guys in 11 year old kids." he's not just beta at Game, he's beta in politics.

*guts. Not guys. Damn iPhone. Oh, sure you can autocorrect iPhone to have a capital P, but for some reason "guts" should be "guys" because hey, why the hell not.

He comes off like this "come on everybody, I am such a good guy, vote for me..here, I am going to smile, clap ok?".

Good grief! I would rather vote for someone who got up and talked like Nate.

This is an old post, but I just thought I would add that he cannot come out and say "man, I watch him treat her like crap, and she still takes it!" Modern sensibilities and all that.

Everytime we hear the Obama's talk (both of them!) it is all Beta crap, "oh, michelle doesn't let me buy things", "oh, barack would be lost without me, cause he is a dumb male"

Ew ew ew ew

disgusting to watch.
