It's her prerogative

An unexpected consequence of women in the military:
Navy Cmdr. Sarah DeGroot, commanding officer of the 420-person dock landing ship USS Rushmore, abruptly resigned Monday and walked off the job.

A commanding officer resigning voluntarily is incredibly rare. It’s not clear why DeGroot handed in her command, but she did in fact have that option, unlike in other branches of the military, where walking off the job would be met with serious punishment, Navy Times reports.

DeGroot, a native of Long Beach, Calif., informed Capt. Homer Denius, head of Amphibious Squadron 3, she was resigning, according to sources who spoke to Navy Times.
Considering that women do this in marriages and corporate careers all the time, I don't know why it would surprise anyone that it is happening in the military. It is, after all, a woman's prerogative to change her mind.

Good thing they weren't at war.

"DeGroot first took command of Rushmore back in March and has earned the awards of Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards) and the Meritorious Service Medal" -- tells you something about the value of those awards if they give them to a future quitter.

Can't be that hard to find a man who wants to command a ship...

My dad is a retired Naval officer. He said he's never heard of an officer walking off the job like that unless something was about to break, like a scandal.

Pregnant perhaps?

Back in my "salad days" on active duty (the 80s) the Navy was giving both of those medals out like candy (I was awarded two NCMs for what I believed to be ridiculously trivial reasons). I can imagine that it's a lot worse today.

As for Mizz DeGroot, I'm sure she realizes that walking away from command is equivalent to being relieved for cause: that is, it is effectively the end of her career. At least that has historically been the case for male officers. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to learn that in what masquerades as the U.S. Navy today that there is a "special snowflake exemption" for the Satah DeGroots (anyone wanna bet that her male shipmates probably got nothing for doing the same things that got her her two medals? Or, more likely, she got them just for being a commissioned vagina?).

I'm betting that not only will this worthles bitch not get cashiered, but will get promoted to Captain. 'cause vagina.

Once again, any self-respecting man who voluntarily remains on active duty in today's U.S. military has effectively surrendered any legitimate claim to the title.

Women, generally = status-focus, which gives rise to the inter-subjective mindset that such status-motivation requires for enhanced operation

Men, generally = conquest-focus, which gives rise to the inter-objective mindset that such conquest-motivation requires for enhanced operation

As such, men and women, generally, are not suited for the same social roles. But our culture be all "duh" about these obvious facts.

My take on it - people, individually ...... pretty damn dumb (or perhaps self-unaware) on average. Perhaps this cult of the individual (which I am actually for) requires the brighter folk to cognitively slap the dimmer folk around a bit ... so as to drag them along.

Man this individual expression of the culture thing is getting overly tedious and dumb and this juncture.

Probably got the command through affirmative action.

What about those men that are doing it because they desperately love their country and fear for her safety? ("her" meaning "America", not the walking uterus)

When do you sign your re enlistment contract?

Two points:

1). Trump-haters keep saying they feel "unsafe" with him in office -- which is ridiculous hyperbole. Having someone like this commanding ships should genuinely make people feel unsafe. That feeling should be double if they're really pushing women into these positions with Affirmative Action.

2). Bobby Brown's "My Prerogative" was one of the most annoying hits of the '80, so no thanks for putting it back in my head with this headline. "Every Little Step" from the same album was much better.

I agree with Ayn Rand: "Any woman who wants to command men, there is something seriously wrong with her."

Then they need to join or form an organization that is dedicated to doing exactly that. The U.S. military is not (any longer) that organization. Any thinking, sentient individual who has spent any amount of time at all in the military over the last two decades knows this.

It's all good and well telling men to quite their jobs. But a man's got to eat, you know.

Until the Navy can come up with a more permanent arrangement, Cmdr. DeWayne Sanders has assumed temporary command of Rushmore.

Everyone can relax, a man is in charge.

More on the idiocy of feminism pushing for female quotas in the military:

Witness the first ever qualified female RAF fighter pilot - after 4 million pounds* of tax payer money spent on her pilot training, she finally figures out what the military is for, and that she may be called upon to actually kill people in her line of duty!

Promptly leaves the military and suggests the military budget should be re-assigned to humanitiarian purposes:

"We award this award for meritorious service to meritoriousness and being awarded for being meritorious."

"What is this shit?!"

"Look, if we don't keep feeding her goodfeelz, she'll just walk aw . . . Oh, damn!"

I'll wager it's a "This country is sexist because Hillary lost, I quit."

Is our military just completely token now... I mean obviously if we had outright war we'd be screwed but did we just expand the drone program enough to enable covert pseudowar to the end of time?

Like most upper management, she probably didn't DO anything except push shit downhill.

But she could be quitting before something prevents her from effectively leading the command. Something awful like cancer or just not feeling effective.

No matter what the real reason: One less broad in the military. Bonus for the country.
