Sensibility is not shame

A rape victim defends a judge:
A rape victim has backed a warning by the female judge presiding over her case that drunk women are putting themselves in danger. Megan Clark, 19, was attacked by a man she met in a fast food restaurant after drinking beer and vodka during a night out in Manchester. After the attacker's trial, Judge Lindsey Kushner was criticised by campaigners for warning that potential attackers 'gravitate towards girls who have been drinking'.

Ms Clark has now dismissed claims Judge Kushner was 'victim blaming', insisting she was just warning people to be more careful. Waiving her right to anonymity, Ms Clark told the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire that she took the judge's comments in a 'positive way' and she did not believe she was 'victim-blaming'.

'She was right in what she said,' Ms Clark added. Judge Kushner's comments – at the end of her final trial before retiring – prompted a storm of criticism from campaigners and charities. The judge said: 'Girls are perfectly entitled to drink themselves into the ground but should be aware people who are potential defendants to rape gravitate towards girls who have been drinking. It shouldn't be like that but it does happen and we see it time and time again.'
It's about time feminists give up stop trying to play victim on behalf of all women all the time and start accepting the obvious fact that women have agency and are responsible for the situations in which they choose to put themselves and the risks they choose to take, even though they aren't responsible for the consequences that subsequently ensue.

The simple distinction that feminists intentionally ignore in their desperation for offense is between risk mitigation and moral responsibility. If I leave my car unlocked in a bad part of town, I am not morally responsible for auto theft, but I could have avoided the whole situation with a modicum of forethought. Victims are not morally responsible for the crime, only perpetrators are. But they can be responsible for massive and obvious failures of good sense which might have avoided the whole situation.

Women always bait other women into stupid choices so said first set of women don't look too stupid.

A woman's life is centered on herself and her position within a hierarchy, they are herd/flock creatures.

You improve yourself you improve your woman, it's the core of GAME.

Anyone with good parents and a strong sense of self and street smarts could avoid this situation easily.

Rape happens and it's horrible. Why is it horrible? Because the rapist has exploited weakness from someone who couldn't fight back.

Always be certain you're in a position to fight back, should you fail in the primary objective: never get into a situation where you have to fight.

Somehow I managed to get through high school and college without being raped. Shocking.

This. I tell my daughter this all the time. I just point to her grandmother (!) who got a bunch of tattoos as part her mid-life crisis and who now tries to talk everyone else into also getting tattoos.

Given that men are far more likely to be assault victims than are women, the judge's admonition applies to all.

Intoxication = vulnerability

Public vulnerability is an open invitation to predation.

To expose how ridiculous the whole concept of is, go in the other direction. Tell women to get as drunk as possible while wearing as little clothing as possible in the worst area they can find. In fact, DEMAND they do this to strike a blow for freedom and equality.

When they protest, then you can accuse them of "slut-shaming," being "judgy," and all the other modern-day sins the regressive left invented.

To be fair, there was a time--not all that long ago--when the rapist's defense lawyer would have claimed that the victim's dress and/or behavior was "asking for it", and likely gotten a Not Guilty verdict as a result. The pendulum has swung away from that, but I imagine many feminists are afraid it could swing back if not held firmly in place. As Vox has noted, pendulums rarely stop in the middle.

I made exactly this point, using exactly the same analogy, some years ago at a supposedly conservative website. The shrieks of "VICTIM BLAMING! VICTIM BLAMING!" from the females were loud and incessant. They truly do believe that "every woman" has the "right" to walk drunk and naked through the ghetto and not get raped.

A boomer-aged woman I know recently posted a joke video in which a judge advises a male victim that he might not have been mugged and beaten if he hadn't been walking alone in an expensive suit after a night on the town. The actor portrayed shock and disbelief at being shamed for appearing wealthy, and the woman who posted the video thought it was a hilarious satire of rape-victim-blaming. I doubt she's ever met a man who thought he could drunkenly stumble alone down a dark inner city streen in an Armani suit (or JC Penny sport coat, for that matter) without risk. I've been known to minimize my drinking and leave my wallet at the hotel when wearing <$30 dress pants. These feminists are socially retarded.

Everyone is vulnerable when drinking. Women are even more vulnerable especially when their behavior suggests they won't accept help when distressed. The time for helping women are long past. The powerful feminist lobbyists are doing women no favors by touting feminist talking points. Are women doing fine on their own for themselves? That's what we're told.

Technically, they have that right. A right is separate from a likelihood. I guess my point is that if "how a girl was dressed" was being used to exonerate rape defendants, I'd be against it. But if it's advice to girls on how to avoid becoming a victim, staying sober, avoiding bad places, and sticking with friends is pretty solid. Facts are stubborn things. They keep cropping up.

@Tarrou,

Technically, you do not have a "right" not to be a crime victim. If you had that right, then the police would have a duty to protect you. But the police have no specific duty to protect any individual. It follows that you have the duty to protect yourself from crime - starting firstly with the basic common-sense principle of "stay aware of your environment, don't do stupid things, don't put yourself in risky situations."

Feminists are all for female moral agency when it comes with the benefits of being an adult, and are perfectly fine dispensing with it when it comes to the responsibilities, obligations and consequences that come with it. It's been their game for decades.
