Predicting the Gamma

As soon as I saw Camestros Felapton’s antics I spelled out what he’d do next to Vox and sure enough it all happened.

Remember that Gammas can never be wrong and so regardless of what happens he will publicly claim victory and it’s all a lot of fun. Of course the vitriol in his words betrays his emotions and instead he’s furious. Being a Secret King means you never learn from being shown to be wrong. First the Gamma isn’t wrong, second if someone thinks he’s wrong they only misunderstood him, third if they understood him then it’s just a lot of fun and games and he’s not being serious, fourth if people think he’s wrong, not misunderstood, it’s not funny, then the other guy is an asshole. If all of this fails then the Gamma slinks off for a time.

If the public rebuke was minor the Gamma will show back up like nothing happened very shortly and start in a new conversation in an effort to distract from what happened. If public rebuke was major he will disappear for a long time, perhaps months or even years, and then wait for an opportunity to strike back. NOTHING is ever forgotten or forgiven by a Gamma. He holds grudges for an eternity and will always seek revenge. Why?

He. Can’t. Be. Wrong. If a Gamma is wrong HE is wrong. His LIFE is wrong. It’s all personal.  He holds everything against everyone forever (except that girl on a pedestal) and expects everyone to hold everything against him forever. It’s a sad and horrible way to live, but if you watch and learn Gammas are very predictable and keep making the same mistakes perpetually.

Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions . . . do you see a person wise in their own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for them . . .how long will you who are simple love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge? (cf. Proverbs )

From time out of mind the conceited fool and the man bare of reason, will tenaciously adhere to his views, no matter how utterly unjustifiable they may be. These people simply do not respond to teaching because they do not have the capacity to learn anything, a deficiency which is rooted in foolish conceit.

They are perhaps the most pitiable and insecure people on the face of the earth.

I know the gamma is a secret king but in his heart he should know its a lie. But does he know its a lie? Or does the gamme truly believe he's the secret king?

He knows it's a lie.

Delta Man, I am not trying to be difficult, but if the Gamma knows its a lie what does he gain? In his heart he will always know he is nothing, just a puffed up fool lying, and then lying some more to hide the truth. All his victories will be nothing to him because they are all a lie.

That is an interesting observation which sounds like a description of narcissism. I do not quite see how it relates to the concept of Gamma - thought it was a concept related to the socio-sexual marketplace. Surely there are Gammas who are not like this and also Alphas who are, since the concepts are more or less unrelated.

They know it. They know they are not kings in anybody's eyes but their own. They will just never at any cost ever, ever admit it, because defeat is never a way up for them. Affirmation is everything when you're deeply insecure as the lonely and bitter gamma. Saving face is all that matters at the end of every day. Which is why the gamma shoots at you off the back of his horse on the way out have town after having been roundly defeated or bested.

It is also why they have so much pent up fury.

What a living hell they make for themselves.

Speaking for my own Gamma self, I'd say I have a pretty good idea where I'm deficient. And believe me, if I could slink off forever, I would. But the world doesn't let people do that. So I follow the school of thought that encourages people to fake it till we make it, and tells us that if we plan to be important, we'd better act important. All the while, I'm scared to death of being exposed. But I don't think it's accurate to say that none of us admit our shortcomings to anyone, ever. I'll talk about them to my friends till I'm blue in the face. It's forming a modus vivendi with the rest of the world that's so tricky.

Jew, maybe he believes the lie? It's some kind of self-reinforced delusion.

I think admitting the shortcomings is an important first step. Admitting first to yourself, without wallowing in them or feeling sorry for yourself or that anyone else is to blame, and then being able to laugh at them if and when they are manifest to others. Life's just too short to let it be consumed by anxiety, insecurity and bitterness. I am certainly not saying it's easy, but it will certainly be worth the time an effort. The old saying is very true: the truth will set you free.

Keep being honest with yourself and others. Not everybody is going to like you. Not everybody is going to accept you. That's all right. But at the end of the day, no one can run away from who they are or keep reinventing themselves every six months, though this facebook culture would have you believe otherwise.

Everyone has their own set of weaknesses to work on, as well as strengths. Hone the strengths and don't be afraid to keep honestly facing and tackling the weaknesses. From my particular worldview, we are all a work in progress and no one ever "arrives."

I think one of the most helpful things the "gamma" can do, is to find ways to help and serve others, just for the sake of helping and serving others. Actively look for ways to help do for others. Volunteer. Help out a soup kitchen, help someone move, if you have a particular skill set, how can you use it to serve someone. It's one of the most truly healthy and life-transforming things we can do.

At the risk of sounding preachy, I don't want you to think I'm patronizing you, just that I appreciated your post and wanted to encourage you in the direction you seem to be headed. It's a good direction. Stay the course, hang in there, fight the good fight.

Rabbi B:

Nothing puts a smile on my face like a rabbi who apologizes for sounding preachy. No, seriously, your advice was very much to the point. I appreciate it, will continue to slog ahead. Thank you.

Shelter from his own self-contempt. No one hates a Gamma more than himself.

Note: this implies that someone who is generally a shlub but who does have something or other positive he can take genuine pride in is not per se a Gamma.
