Science restates the obvious

It's fascinating to see how many people refuse to believe the evidence of their eyes until a scientific study gives them permission:
Straight men of all ages tend to have their romantic sights set on women in their mid-twenties, while women prefer men who are about the same age as they are, according to a new study.

The survey out Friday, financed by the government-backed research funding group Academy of Finland, gathered data on 12,000 Finns and found that women, on average, are looking for partners who are about their age or slightly older. But men across the age spectrum have a sexual preference for women in their mid-20s. This remains true for men of all ages—men in their early-20s or younger are attracted to women older than themselves and older men are attracted to younger women.

The findings are similar to data culled from the dating website OKCupid, which found that male users of the site of all ages, by far, are looking for women in their early-20s.
This is news? It's simply hypergamy vs the sexual imperative. Never forget, it is MEN that are the romantic sex; WOMEN are the pragmatic one.

As ever, insistence on equalitarianism forces divergence from reality AND science.

Queue the "we need to reeducate the men more, it's just not working!" Feminist brigade.
Clearly all those men can't handle 'real women'.

Yes, exactly. It's odd how most of us have been programmed practically from birth to believe the inverse.

Indeed. As the saying goes, men are romantics pretending to be realists, while women are realists pretending to be romantics.

Or, as Rollo puts it, men love idealistically, while women love opportunistically.

There is no such thing as opportunistic 'love'.

Says an idealistic man, proving the point.

How is a man setting his "romantic" sights on a mid-20s female anything but pragmatic - biologically speaking?

Of course I am an outlier, I have no romantic proclivities whatsoever towards the opposite sex and I am as hetero as it gets. I just like sex and them women got the gina, and its good. But I'm a practical man who has been in a fairly stable LTR for a long time, but it ain't based on that Hollywood Romcom BS, not by a long shot.

My romantic notions are based on war, I want my front lawn to look like Vlad the Impaler's after a good day of smiting those who need it.

To address the issue the study touched on, young chickies mid twenties or younger are good to look at and admire for their beauty, but give me a good looking women who has taken care of herself who is about 30 whose sex drive is kicked up a notch or 10.

As I say, the young chickies put out the sex out of social convention but a 30 year old will put out because she likes it.

Also, "romance" doesn't mean romantic comedies and chocolates. It means something more along the lines of a knight embarking on a hopeless quest to save a kingdom based on nothing more than drunken idealism. "Hold my beer and watch this." "Molon labe." Same thing.

Pragmatic would be setting sights on a mid-to-late teens female.

Oh I dunno, interest in girls 18-21 is pragmatic, or at least, is a genetic holdover from more pragmatic times in the past, because those girls are most likely to be fertile.

Men prefer mid-twenties women? Only when late-teen/early twenties women are not available. I believe there is some self-reporting bias going on here, or maybe I'm just a terrible man-type person.

Who the hell believes anything women say.

My personal preference is 16 to 21 year olds. Mid 20's can still be hot, don't get me wrong, but the height of sexual appeal is younger than most guys will admit.

Possibly because girls up to the age of 21 are still in college and hooking up with college guys. But once they're out of college and not already in a relationship, they seem much more open to considerably older men. Which is why the author sees girls age 21-25 doing it.

So is the whole "30+ chick sex drive" unconscious baby rabies?

Duh!!

So if you've knocked your wife up four times before her late 20's, THAT's the time to get the secret vasectomy. Makes sense.

Indeed men are romantic, as in "idealistic" and - praise God - pragmatic (men build cities; women fill them). Desiring a female 25 (more likely younger) makes perfect procreative sense. So, more to the point - who trusts men's responses to surveys? Surveys are for chicks.
