Portrait of a pioneer

In more good news for the sexual equalitarians, it appears women in the military are closing the all-important suicide gap between male and female soldiers:
Informed sources tell MilitaryCorruption.com that three of the deceased - two officers and an NCO - allegedly took their own lives over the Easter weekend. One of them was a female captain who blazed the trail as first of her gender to command an all-female F.E.T. (Female Engagement Team) sent to improve relations with Afghan women.

ALL-FEMALE UNIT EXPERIMENT FAILED

Kelly Hasselman was a super-achiever, just the kind of young officer the Army loves to point to as an ideal. An honor graduate (2007) of the Citadel, she excelled at every challenge she took on. All except one. The much-ballyhooed F.E.T. 55-woman detachment she commanded soon imploded, no fault of it's earnest leader.

"A number of women got pregnant and were sent back to the States," an officer in the know told MCC. "Others were producing pornography for American GIs, and some of the raunchy photos included females in lesbian poses."

Whether this "failure," a first in the intense and highly-successful career of Kelly Hasselman, was enough to send her off the rails, or her death has a more sinister origin, we cannot say for sure at this early date.
Why, I do believe we may have a case of Hultgreen-Curie Syndrome at work here. And isn't it wonderful that women now can join the military and commit suicide just like men do! If that's not powerful evidence of the sustainability of the equalitarian society, what is?

So, here is a thought: what if young women were encouraged to get married, bear children, and raise them instead of being encouraged to go to college, join the army, and commit suicide? Isn't it at least possible that this might be a more functional basis for society?

"Cpt. Hasselman once explained to me that she would like to marry and have children, but that her career made the prospect so difficult."

It seems likely that if she had been encouraged to do so, she would still be alive. Feminism kills.

A sad anecdote:

A year ago, my brother in law completed and finished his SERE training course towards the end of his overall Special Forces training.

He told me that there was one woman in there taking the course. Unfortunately for her in that course, she was the highest ranked soldier there.

It is my understanding that women soldiers are frequently treated with soft hands in the military... because they're women. This leads to a lot of administrative or easier-than-average positions and quick advancement.

In that SERE course, the soldier participants are eventually captured and placed in a mock POW camp. They simulate brutal treatment and interrogation in the training. Of course, the enemy is always going to target the highest ranked soldier there in order to extract as much useful information as possible.

This led to especially harsh treatment of the woman soldier, because she outranked everyone, and particularly because our anticipated enemy these days treats women soldiers... especially harsh. So, think along the lines of lots of fake rapes, etc.

Apparently, she held up quite well and finished the course.

But, a few days after completing the course, she committed suicide.

She left behind a husband and children.

How can strong independent women get their very own company helping only da poor womenz from da mean, mean menz and still end up making "pornography for male G.I.s"? Especially with such a strong over achiever leader type?

And like Vox, I cannot see this as a suicide level event. Had to be something else - she was in on the activities, or something similar. I don't mean to sound callous, but if people killed themselves because other people did stupid things, then there would not be enough of the population left to require social security numbers.

Just think of it as evolution in action.

Sad, but true.

Let's see, you tell an impressionable "high achiever" that it's ok to actively work in a field that excels in the destruction of life and human society (even one as backwards as Afghanistan) and no one expects there to be some cognitive dissonance?

I was told about a female army suicide victim in NH recently by a friend of hers. She was one of the first women in a combat support role (armored vehicle driver) where she watched her fellow combatants become fodder for IEDs. She lost her soul and ended up leaving a three year old daughter alone on this earth.

It's all fair though, so that's all that matters.

I've come to the conclusion that women who volunteer for the military should be given a wide berth. Every one I've known was seriously screwed up emotionally, and in a variety of ways that weren't always easy to spot at first. I don't know if it's cause or effect -- whether military service screws them up, or that it attracts screwed up girls -- but either way, it's a red flag.

The best part about the article is their insistence that her team's "implosion" was "no fault" of hers. How do they know that, with such certainty? If many of her subordinates were getting pregnant and/or spending their days making girl-on-girl porn, mightn't that be at least a little her fault? Isn't there usually something about where the buck stops?

During some training as a naval officer I met a man who claimed to have served on the very first Coast Guard ship to ever integrate women into the crew. He said it changed absolutely everything about crew dynamics, for the worse.

I was friends with many female officers, both junior and senior, who were totally delusional as to their marriage prospects while serving in the Navy. Several senior officers, male and female, said to me "the Navy ruined my marriage." The marriage-quality female junior officers were doing themselves zero favors by wasting 5-7 years of their prime attractiveness working 60-80 weeks or being shuttled off to sea for 8-10 months out of every year. These were women who would be loyal and make great mothers, but in the looks departments were in the 4-6 range and the Navy certainly wasn't teaching them how to be more feminine, attractive, or cook a damn good meal.

Women have no business being in the operational side of the military. Medical services and non-deployable secretarial-type positions, fine, but nothing even remotely close to real war fighting.

This assumes that feminist actually care about women. They don't.

I first saw this yesterday at The Thinking Housewife. In today's post on this subject, the Army is saying [cause of death] ''That information has not been made public''.
One commenter on the earlier post noted:
My husband and I were incredulous that we could find nothing at all for five days. And even now there is nothing official. As you suggest, the details may be withheld, but one would at least expect Kelly’s name and date of death in an obituary. My sincere condolences are with the Hasselman family, nevertheless the Army should be subject to admitting the reality of her passing and be extremely concerned about why this is happening in today’s military.
Suicide? Quite possible, but it could be the drag on morale that the obviously hopeless 'mission' in Afghanistan has become for all of those in uniform over there could be as much a factor as the utter failure of the F.E.T.

I will also add this... you are crazy and outright negligent to you allow your daughter to join any of the military forces. Most especially the Navy. Allowing your daughter to join the US Navy at 18, 19, or 20 years of age is sending her into certain social, emotional, and spiritual disaster.

When your daughter goes to college now, she is surrounded by vapid sluts with cell phones (or high IQ sluts with cell phones if you're at an Ivy or Ivy equivalent) and horny males more than willing to help her along the path to slutdom. The pressures upon her to fall in line with the rest of her rebellious and sinful generation are enormous. She, like 95% of them do, will fall prey to temptation eventually. And if she does not quickly learn and face her mistake, she'll become inured to it and continue to engage in activity you have no idea about. It will wreck her soul and intellect and identity like you can never imagine. You will deal with the fallout in some way or another, likely for the rest of her life.

Now, instead place that girl in the US Navy where she is likely to be assigned to a ship. As an E1 to E3 she will be forced to live on the ship. This is akin to not only sending your daughter to college, but then forcing her to actually live IN the frat house with horny, snot-nosed, idiot, video-game playing 18, 19, 20 year-old males. These males do not for one second think about the 5, 10, 20, or 40 year consequences of your sweet little daughter becoming a shipwide cum dumpster during her sea tour. Or afterwards for that matter. They do not care for one second. And neither will your daughter after spending night after god-awful night in the hull of a steel ship in her metal bunk bed. She will soon learn the value of her sexual favors and be upgrading and attaining all sorts of desperately wanted attention and favors and 'fun.'

Never, ever let your daughter join the military. As stated above, even if they're older, educated, and possess some moral fortitude before entering the actual service, then it is highly likely they will waste their best years being overworked and stressed out and traveling too much toever have a lifestyle conducive to finding and keeping a quality male around. And if she finds one already in the military, it is highly unlikely things will work out.

Eh... what? "No fault of it's [sic] earnest leader" would be something like a lack of resources, or conflicting orders, or being given an assignment impossible to carry out. Officers don't get to duck responsibility for misbehaving subordinates, though. By definition, that kind of stuff is her fault, particularly if she knew or should have known what was going on.

If the unit imploded because her people were getting pregnant and making porn she deserved some kind of reprimand.

I was shipping out on the Great Lakes (ore carrier) in the late 1970s. Maine Maritime sent out the first girl I had ever seen on an American cargo ship. A little cadet. Cute, short and destined to be a third mate (like the girl that wrecked the Korean ferry boat). Unfortunately, the ship was filled with old guys and she was just 19 or so. She started sneaking off with a flunky ordinary seaman who had been shipping for maybe two seasons. But he was the only cute guy her age.

The captain was pulling his hair out trying to get her to keep it in her pants and act like a damn officer. No dice. She was looking for a fun summer aboard ship and this boy OS was the only fresh meat she could find.

Or son. I'm reaching the point where I'm outright abusive of men and women in US military uniform. The traitors ought to be shamed.

Don't even get me started about my senior officers. Douchebages, idiots, or cowards each and every one. Our military forces are half war fighting machine, half welfare machine. Not just welfare for shitbag enlisted types who wouldn't make nearly as much in the real world, but also for sub-intelligent career officers. Not all senior officers are like that, but most are.

We're soooo doomed. Even in this. Lets see, 1. find man. 2. get pregnant. 3. Find electron (beta orbiter).

In my guilty pleasure and workout TV anesthetic, "Supernatural", they had a show that had the Leviathans create an additive that made High Fructose Corn Syrup be modified to render humans fat, dumb, and slow (superfluous), and toxic to vampires, werewolves, and shapeshftters.

Life imitates art. Even comic-book art.

I've been dragged, kicking and screaming, into the realization that Women are best when submitting to a Man in marriage. Considering their choice in footwear, being barefoot is more rational. Pregnancy tends to keep them out of trouble as it keeps them blessedly occupied. Peter Kreeft once observed God has a bizarre sense of humor. And he created woman. The two are related, though most men don't appreciate the practical joke.

1) Women have a hard time leading other women - they hate having another woman in a hierarchical position over them. Pecking orders are accepted, but an official position? They generally don't enjoy that.

2) On the pregnancies: Entirely predictable given the other facts surrounding military pregnancies, and for Eric above, someone already tried to put out orders prohibiting or curtailing the get-pregnant-on-deployment trend, it didn't work out. A little blatant self-link-whoring here: http://retrophoebia.wordpress.com/2012/11/26/military-pregnancies-where-do-we-stand/

Whenever I've been deployed in a theater of operations, wordd has been put out upon arrival in theater that ANY pregnancies among female personnel will result infield-grade Article 15 (non-judicial) punishment for the female involved and if the male is also a service member, then him, too. The women KNOW that getting pregnant in theater is both malingering and dereliction of duty. I know of two cases, and in both instances, their battalion commanders (one was 1992, the other 2007) threw the book at the pregnant females.

Were it that simple.

Your insensitivity and ignorance are appalling. To reduce the intricacies of this beautiful soul to the implication that a woman's only redeeming quality is that of a brood mare is vastly misguided.

I am saddened for you and for those who share such narrow views that keep you from the recognition of the dignity, the generosity, and the virtue of this honorable woman who fought and perished for the freedom of us all... Soldiers and housewives alike.

She made a selfless sacrifice to serve her country and protect YOUR freedoms (including your freedom of speech and, subsequently, your freedom to anonymously bash a woman, a patriot, a passionate Leader that you know NOTHING about). She had more integrity in her little finger than all of you combined. And, unless you were there, with us on our mission, you will NEVER understand what she, or any of us, went through. Hypothesize all you want but you will never know the truth. How sad is it that the only way you can feel better about yourselves and your self-selected places in this life is to sit around and anonymously defame the deceased and bash a person you never had the privilege to know? I feel so sorry for you all and I highly suggest that y'all find a new hobby that might contribute to making the world a better place.
