Oh sweet Oprah

We're not just talking a lack of Game here on McRapey's part, we're talking national class anti-Game:

Clearly the pick-up artists are going about it all wrong. If you want to score with a woman, it only makes sense that your best move must be to sit around, look inoffensive, and hope that some high-T manjaw with furry arms will ask you to dance. Also, rocking a sweet sweater like that can only boost your odds. Notice how quick he is to show off his ring and to mention his wife's name. (Subtext: she's a real live woman, honest! I didn't build her in my basement or anything!) This is not exactly behavior indicative of a man accustomed to female attraction.

It's telling that a man so openly opposed to the simple concept of a socio-sexual hierarchy would have previously been opposed to the idea of The Rules. I don't know what the actual Rules are, but the distaste for them makes it apparent that what we see here is the Gamma's female-wired, narcissistic mind at work. One might understandably be in denial about the concept of the hierarchy due to distaste for one's low place in it. But to object to The Rules as well tends to indicate an intrinsically effeminate view of oneself as a Unique and Special Snowflake.

It is trivially true that every couple has to come up with their own rules that suit both parties. That's simply a practical reality. But such a step can only come well AFTER the fact and is irrelevant with regards to attracting or successfully navigating the first relationship steps with the opposite sex. And to deny that both sets of rules, relationship and pre-relationship, will necessarily be based on some sort of common male-female relations template, the formulation of which is the result of observing human behavioral patterns, is indicative of the conventional Gamma male reality warping.

Meh, this a weaker post because your disdain for Scalzi is clouding your judgement.

First, you don't know what The Rules are. Look them up; they're sheer idiocy. It's also pretty clear from body language/facial feature that the person Scalzi's arguing against *in this instance* is a ball-busting bitch and in the clip Scalzi elegantly evades contact with her cuntiness.

The vest is what it is and I'm not going to try to defend it because that's before my gen. The wedding ring thing is weird, but it's not necessarily antigame. The initial mention of the wife in that tone is solid gamma. Scalzi might be a gamma in grand scheme of things, but he was probably at MAX testosterone in this video, because he doesn't come across half as poorly as you make him sound. By ye fruits ye shall know them, and on this count the youtube commenter on top really says it all:

"A decade and a half after this clip, John Scalzi is still happily married and Rules author Ellen Fein divorced the man she cited as an example of how well The Rules work. Just saying."

The "wait-for-someone-to-ask-you-to-dance" suggestions Scalzi are anti-game today, but it may have been a different time then, and his advice isn't directed at men anyway. Even though he's not *too* bad in body language, he pretty clearly repulses the woman next to him with the grab, but then he eases her up with a joke and doesn't let up as a gamma might.

Video ranking: beta.

Breaking it down a little tighter:
you're probably looking hard the first thirty seconds, but its just not meant to be taken that seriously and the minimal self-deprec isn't going to hurt. The "I didn't notice her" line is A+ game and nice wrapped in beta.

The business card is neutral.

The last 1:30 is actually pretty good because the hamsters start to run and while an Alpha might play the situation to his advantage with a well-placed barb, Scalzi lets them spin - which is the best even a lesser alpha could do. Overall, way better than I'd guess.

Rantor said...

What a whack, wallowing in his own little world. Only Oprah could defend him.

VD said...

The business card is neutral.

No. The business card is only neutral if you do it when you haven't even talked to the girl or if she's been your waitress. Not when she approached you and you've spent the entire evening with her. That's weak; as he even declares, it is openly rejecting taking the lead in that situation. Pure gamma.

Scalzi lets them spin - which is the best even a lesser alpha could do.

He's not letting them spin, he simply can't manage to get a word in edgewise. That's why he's sitting there with his hand upraised, waiting for the teacher to call on him.

I looked them up. "The book suggests rules that a woman should follow in order to attract and marry the man of her dreams."

In other words, they clearly worked for her to attract and marry the guy. Which is all they are supposed to do. Building a successful marriage is tangentially related with attracting a mate, the two are non synonymous. You're committing a category error here.

tbh, I said neutral b/c its too contextual to call. would I drop my bcard after a bump n grind? nah, but it didn't sound like that kind of dance.

Plus, according to my pops leaving your number in some form with a couple dozen girls is something that *used to work*. I'm in trading so it's not sooper effective, but some of my boys in ibanking just drop that card everywhere like you said and let the girl run a little bit. from times when I sociopathically faked it three years ago I got a 1/5 response rate which is frankly amazing given the effort. not sure about sci-fi relationship columnists or w/e, but I could (and I think you could) see it going either way, even given what you know about Scalzi (although I'm not trying too hard to visualize this guy doing the pickup).

true, but that's what Scalzi says *in a convoluted way* in the clip. if you're a fit girl who aged out of marriage bc of career or w/e the rules are going to attract the kind of man you can't sustain an attraction to.

nah, check the context of the comments.

Scalzi could easily be a gamma in real life today. I don't know. But the guy in this video was solid beta on the Vox-scale and could've, just maybe, been lesser alpha.

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. I might give you delta were it not for the feminine mannerisms and the woman next to him getting creeped out. But not beta and definitely not lesser alpha.

Do you see a single woman there showing any sign of being charmed by him? Do you not see the plethora of supplication signals on his part?

Anonymous said...

If a guy is the only man in the room can he be the contextual alpha regardless of his true nature?
Judging from the woman's reaction at 1:57 it doesn't look that way.

He wasn't max-T, he was high adrenaline. And who wouldn't be in their first appearance on national TV?

Mr Scalzi did a very good job in his mannerisms and his comments. He articulated the classic gamma position in a classically gamma way. Since Mr Scalzi has fully embraced gamma, he did a great job expressing gamma there.

He's not alpha. We already knew that. He knows that. He's gamma. He was max-gamma in the video. Entertaining, but sadly we learned nothing new.

That brunette on stage: "If I have to ask a man to dance, I don't want to marry him." Word is bond.

My girlfriend recently commented on something I did on our first date. We were walking down the street, toward a whiskey bar. I had already grabbed her hand. But she was on the street side. I told her she was a woman and needed to be on the inside. Then promptly switched sides.

This move (which was by design, heh) apparently got the 'gina juices flowing.

A Scalzi would've Title IX'ed his way down the sidewalk, girl on street side. On the way to a soy latte.

Its just so obvious this man is clueless with women. The faces on the women gave it all away, this nice guy act, preaching equality turned them all off. They know their meant to believe thats the right way, due to brainwashing media, but they can hardly contain how repelled they are by his gene sapping fitness indicators.

The guy oozes sexual failure from every pore. If being married proves he's a winner all I need to do is marry my sisters fat friend who is besotted by me and I'm a big evolutionary winner?

Watched a PBS documentary on evo-psych recently, the guy on there was supplication personified. His wife was objectively fat and unattractive and the guy was banging on about how gorgeous she was lol!!

I got nowt against the idea of of being with a fat woman, for reasons of child rearing and character etc, but pretending she is gorgeous just gives the game away.

Recently I busted out with that hip-hop vintage shopping tune around my young nieces. Shocked them that I would be so "cutting edge" (LOL, thanks Vox!) Apparently I went up several "hip points" as a result.

I don't know Vox. Maybe we're out of touch. If McRapey's look is coming back in, maybe we're in for a redux of the 80's "sensitive male" too.

Stride Rite said...

Vox, or anyone else with insight,

Is the "I have gay friends" thing with straight women a growing trend in shit tests? Several girls I dated last year seemed to bring it up early on, with a sorta "you don't have a problem with that, do you?" look on their faces.

I typically responded with, "Nah. Love me some fags. No hate! H8!"

They looked aghast at first, but I realized they were only doing this out of their PC upbringing. Then they'd laugh hysterically, often covering their smiles.

I think a "fag" drop is a good DHV, and shit test toward a woman.

Whilst out with my girlfriend the other night, we wanted to take a photo. I pointed to two obviously Prop 8 men and said, "Let's get those faggots to take it for us."

Laughter ensued. (She also tried to shit test me early on in the relationship with the "my gays" stuff.)

I can see the average guy who needs to work on himself and improve his SSH standing viewing this and thinking "maybe I'm not so bad after all---this dork makes me look like 'the Rock' ".

I also note he started growing a beard. That seems to be more common. He would have looked better in the wig for the sci-fi cover thingy with the blond wig without (not much, but infinitesimals need all the help they can get).

The main problem with Game is that it is very effective at getting the girls, but has no way of making the girls worth getting. The spinsters can have their cats, and the dirty old men can act on their Viagra prescription. Yet femininity is all but dead.

In most of the stories where the hero "gets the girl", there would be no reason to return or exchange her as being defective.
