The Alpha test

It's pretty simple. Since most young women take naked selfies, if your wife or girlfriend is below the age of 30 and isn't sending them to you, then you're not an Alpha. Because, at some point, there is a 90 percent chance she was sending them to someone who isn't you.
Of the 850 readers who responded to a poll in a Cosmo twitter callout (99 percent of whom were female, with an average age of 21), 89 percent had taken nude photos of themselves at some point. Of that group, only 14 percent regretted doing so, and 82 percent said they'd do it again.

According to the poll, around 83 percent of women would take nude photos again -- 26.21 percent stipulating that they would only do so if they weren't recognizable in the images.
Of course, the caveat here is that these are young women who read Cosmo. I tend to doubt the percentage would be quite as high if the poll surveyed 850 young women who read Tolstoy. Then again, if your wife or girlfriend likes to read Cosmo or InStyle or any other magazine that is primarily composed of gossip and pictures of celebrities, it's probably a fair metric.

If she reads Tolstoy she probably goes to the gun range and would just as likely send a pic of her latest target.

I made almost the exact same point a few days ago when I said, "The lesson to learn from this [the celebrity naked pix scandal] is: If your girlfriend isn't sending you naked pix of herself, that means she sending them to someone else. Wives too."

This is a fair certainty. In my experience, women older than 30 take and send nude selfies as well. Hell, on a business trip overseas, I got two colleagues to send me a selfie of them in bed together at our hotel. They were both officers of my company, both hot ... and both married.

My wife found my Dress Blue blouse once and took a picture of her wearing it. Not too unusual for WAG's to do. When I left for Iraq my girlfriend at the time stole one of my Sergeant's Course t shirts to wear while I was gone.

The hilarious part was when she asked for them back (back in the "photos on film" days) or begged me to delete them from my hard drive (digital images). And I should do this why?

My wife and I decided to stop sending nudes when we realized that some government assholes were looking at and storing them. Now we just take Polaroids if we want to get kinky.

@Ghost,

Yeah in the old days it was only the employees at the photo developing store who used to see that stuff, not the gummint and whoever hacks Apple.

That's a caveat; another is that they responded to a Twitter poll. Between them, those factors add up to a huge selection bias.

Be careful with your wishful thinking. I haven't met a woman younger than 40 who wouldn't send one, and I'm talking about professional business women as well as girls who work as waitresses. All it takes is a text that says, "Send me a sexy pic."

I've said this before, but from my experience, if a woman has a profile on a dating site or otherwise chats with guys online, you probably won't have to ask. Just be alpha with her over chat, and pretty soon she'll offer to send you pics, or just surprise you over the webcam.

Again, that's a lot of selection bias and none of those women were married (as far as I know), but I don't think marriage is an antidote to exhibitionism. At best, it means she'll only show off to her husband. Which makes Vox's point: if your wife never sends them to you, it might be time to check out her phone.

Yeah, if they polled women who read the puritans or who work in soup kitchens it would be different.

This is egregious, and the sort of thing that makes me tend towards Bruce Charlton's view that the "manosphere" is evil in overall net effect, no matter what good is intended.

Cripes, man, what have you said? Look what your statement implicitly reinforces and normalizes. You really want to strike into the heart of every man reading this sense of unease - that his wife is engaged in taking and sending naked pictures of herself? How many men will come away from this thread with a niggling, "Gee, really? Really...? Is my wife really...? " Don't answer that; it's a rhetorical question. You have here sown the sort of seeds that divorce and heartbreak are made from; seeds of mistrust, suspicion, joylessness... and marital strife proceeds from there.

The statistics in the OP are highly selection-biased (akin to the Kinsey statistics about homosexuality solicited outside gay bars or wherever), as Vox well knows, this being a typical example of his trademark half-troll-style post. It's outrageous to suggest to the Christian men in the audience that they somehow need to fear that their wives are secret exhibitionists, or that if they're not "in" on this kind of sexual practice, that they're somehow outside of something that everyone else is participating in. Believe me, there are a good many of us who've gone far out of our way to make sure not to marry the sort of woman who would take nude photos of herself. In fact there exist plenty of these women, whatever the manosphere would have one believe.

Yes, when a man uses his reason to allay suspicion, and discovers bad behavior by his wife, it's HIS fault for not trusting her enough. I'm sure we've heard it all before -- often straight from the lips of a woman who was just caught red-handed. Yeah, the high rate of divorce, most of them filed by women, is totally the fault of untrusting men.

Women and their White Knights like Samson here don't want men to have ANY reasonable oversight over women's behavior. They'd rather see men get blindsided by divorce and lose their homes and children without a chance to protect themselves, if the alternative is a man occasionally taking a peek at his wife's phone.

Consider this: if we're wrong, what happens? A man looks at his wife's phone, sees that she's doing nothing wrong, and goes away happy that he married one of the good ones. No harm done. But if he catches her sexting with an old boyfriend -- well, then he's in trouble. How dare he!

Sarcasm aside, if a man told me, "My wife and I have sex every night and any other time I show an interest. She likes to clean house in the nude to get my attention. But she never sends me naked pictures," then I wouldn't tell that man to worry or check up on her. We're obviously talking here about men whose sex lives aren't up to par, or they wouldn't be wondering what's going on in the first place.

Samson,

You're the real enabler of divorce, misery and ruined families.

The accuracy of the poll in question is pretty goddamn minimal according to everything I've read about how to get reasonably accurate survey data.

Not that I doubt plenty of women are doing this kind of thing, especially in the younger age bracket, but at least let's recognize that.

The Remnant,

Sounds like you want a sexless marriage. If so, stay single.

This is where you lost me.

Even if it is true, that still leaves 10 percent of women NOT behaving in that manner. In the USA alone, that is a mere 15.5 million women. You're hardly bereft of hope.

I can sympathize with this. On the other hand, I have one specific worry: is there even an avenue for a woman to change? I mean, sending a racy photo over your iPhone once in your life.. it's stupid, it illustrates something about morality and culture, and I recognize that some people never change. But some people do, right? How do you tell?

Meh ... I'd say it's low, if anything. Back in the 90's when pocket digital cameras were still pretty neat, I used to break the ice with hotties at dance clubs by telling them to flash their boobs for the camera. Upwards of three-quarters of them went for it. That was rather an eyeopener to my naive young self to realize a) the massive majority of women are outright public exhibitionists given the lamest possible excuse, and b) it's really amazing what women will do if you just straight up tell them to do it...

"it's really amazing what women will do if you just straight up tell them to do it..."

Most guys tend to either not know or forget that women will act and do as a confident man tells her, be it grabbing a drink for you, wearing a cute dress, behave well. Women by nature are pleasers, compliers ... conformists.

Just the other day, my roomate was getting ready to grab dinner with her BF. He and I were watching TV. She comes out of her room all dolled up and I tell her I don't like her shoes. She grabs a new pair and tries to please me. You should know that most of the time, as was the case in that instance, I am dressed like a real slub, same pair of jeans and T-shirt for a month but will dress "flashy" when I want to make an impression. I then proceed to tell her I find her hairdo too news anchor like. She starts rearranging them.

She has been flirting with me. She isn't attracted to her BetaBF. Nothing is going to happen between me and her, as it is how I want it to be.

Just before leaving the house, she tells me something like "It's you not him that I wanted to please by doing what you told me." They'll do anything if your frame is strong enough.

thetroll,

That's probably true, and it lines up with my own experience. But that doesn't change the value of the poll itself. If a self-proclaimed psychic used a ouija board to find out how many women sent naked selfies, they may spit out the right answer. But I'm still going to be skeptical of that particular method of sussing out data.

Unfortunately, this leads to the problem of wives thinking they hold their husbands' rank.

One FRG (Family Readiness Group) coordinator of an infantry company solved it like this:

"Ok, ladies, I would like you to all line up in rank order."

The wives and girlfriends then began sorting themselves out by their husband/bf's rank.
After about 5 minutes, they had decided that they were in the proper order.

The coordinator then announced: "WRONG!"

The wives and girlfirends looked at him in utter bewilderment. Has he lost his mind?

"Ladies... you have no rank order BECAUSE YOU ARE CIVILIANS AND THEREFORE HAVE NO RANK!"

,,,

Another anetdote...from a navy base...
A minor disagreement broke out among two wives in the commisary..

One woman said, "Do you know who I am? I'm Admiral so-and-so's wife!"

The other woman replied, "So what... you fuck a sailor... just like I do."

Since the admirals wife had a bad habit of using her husband's rank (for her own benefit) on a frequent basis, cheers were immediately heard from around the commisary.

When word got to the sailors.. they were pleased, too--none more than the admiral himself.
