Contemporary norms no longer demand men to be strong or show their strength. They have been indoctrinated into believing that, but for their forebears' brutish sexism, women are the same as them and can do everything they do.TL;DR: contemporary norms aren't sexy.
They are taught to take their share of childcare, to demonstrate their feminine side and to be socially acceptable to women.
No wonder they've taken up showing their emotions. Dig into the survey and you'll see that's what a lot of the crying is about - not genuine distress, though I wouldn't blame them for that.
David Schwimmer set off this tiresome trend when he played Ross on the sitcom Friends. His was the first straight male character to behave in a stereotypically female way. We should have seen the warning lights. Ross was hopeless in love. His femininity annoyed, not attracted, potential girlfriends.
And for all their protestations, nor is it what young women find attractive in young men today.
A crying man may prove a friend, but never a lover or protector. The men my sex, young and old, still find attractive are those we feel we can rely on who are strong - and, yes, manly. Call me old-fashioned, but there are few women who find a male cry-baby sexually attractive.
This is example #45,832 in why listening to women about what they want is a fool's game. Keep in mind that this female revulsion for what they tell men is attractive applies to being nice as well as it does to showing your emotions, exposing your vulnerabilities, being open about your self-doubts, and sharing your feelings.

Men should avoid most modern popular entertainment for this reason.
Ross, I mean David Schwimmer, was a classmate of my mine. He was a theater groupie, acting in many of the high school productions. He was just as much a dweeb then.
I think it goes back to Alan Alda's simpering on MASH.
I had my girlfriend badger me into opening up. I did. Soon after, she dumped me.
Coincidence?
Nope. Just lesson learned.
Ross? Just remember Chanandler Bong's mom telling Ross: "Let her be a cum dumpster for every hot douchebag that comes around. She'll get sick of them some day. Then, when she's crusted over with jizz and wrinkles, she'll want YOU!"
Among other reasons more women choose to be alone. They repel men and convince men to be repellent. The future has arrived.
Love it that Schwimmer F-ed up his career by that hated role in that sh*tty Seinfeld rip-off show.
What a douche bag!
F-ed up his career?
He was a star on a long running, popular sitcom and made a mountain of cash.
His character (and, likely, Schwimmer) were insufferable, but that can't be considered a bad career move.
To me the show that shows the most f-ed up pansy asses is Big Bang Theory. Holy crap, what a group of dickless pansies! I can't watch that show without my skin crawling. I'd beat the sh*t out of the lot of the supposed "men" on that show.
"I think it goes back to Alan Alda's simpering on MASH."
Hawkeye Pierce is the stereotypical Sensitive New Age Guy and "Sensitive Man with a Sense of Humor" who, along with Woody Allen, are allegedly oh so sexy. They are so "in touch with their feelings" and present as "emotionally available" and "vulnerable" and "have a social conscience", and this makes them "sexy".
Alda (and his character, Hawkeye Pierce) weren't as bad as David Schwimmer's Ross Geller, though. Pierce was a bad ass surgeon, considered the best chest cutter in the camp. He stood up for himself and his principles. He also presented as a mischievous, snarky bad boy, fucking all the nurses in the unit, smirking and offering clever witticisms while doing it, and making the best of a tough situation. Pierce also had the masculine traits of reliability, proficiency and toughness. He could be counted on to do what he said he would do, was among the best at his craft, and was resilient under pressure. Pierce could thus get away with the occasional overwrought emotional display and the social justice tendencies.
Ross Geller isn't like that. Ross is a pussy. He's a paleontologist and is somewhat embarrassed by it. He won't own it. He won't pursue what he wants until it becomes clear it's his for the taking. He won't own his cheating on Rachel, hiding behind repeatedly whining "we were on a break". (You can tell it's fiction, because Ross would never have gotten Rachel OR a chance to cheat on her). He has this verbal/emotional tic of gulping when emotionally overcome, which comes off as feminine. He wears his heart on his sleeve (Pierce didn't). Ross relies on snark and cleverness, but with none of the smirking bad boy persona to go with it. His imagination that snark and wittiness makes him masculine is a gamma tell. Without masculinity and the IDGAF attitude, snark comes off as bitchy, petty and feminine.
This is the difference between 70s SNAGs and 90s feminized men. Fictional SNAGs like Hawkeye Pierce still had some bad boy. The 90s feminized men dispensed with the "bad boy" stuff and replaced it all with snark, clever prepackaged lines, and overwrought emoting, all in a feminized male wrapping. It was sold to men and women as "sexy" and "hot" and "funny"; but Ross is none of the above - he's pathetic, bitchy and girly, and the women around him can see right through it.
What about Ragnar lothbrook of the Vikings?
Ray Romano took the whole Gamma male success to a whole new level. Odd how Hollywood goes on and on trying to train people that weak indecisive wimpy men can be the norm. Are they trying to train the population or convince themselves?
Schwimmer was the perfect actor to play Sobel on Band of Brothers.
The elites are preparing men to not fight back when the muslim hordes and the illegals from Mexico and Central America overrun the US. The open borders crowd which includes both the DNC and GOP are intent on getting rid of whitey either by breeding them out or genocide. The average IQ has plummeted since the Immigration Act of 1965 and will continue if we don't keep the 3rd world sand monkeys out.

I was living in a big shared house in a college town when this show started. Didn't watch teevee except sports. All the housemates would gather in the living room for their Ritual Episode. Because what better way to show you're true Friends than to watch programming about it? Eh? lol
Anyway they asked me to join them as it was a 'house gathering' event so I plopped on the couch and watched five or ten minutes. Saw it was just more of The Geld. Got up, left, didn't watch again. Hey at least I didn't spit in their popcorn. Felt like it tho.
The men of our generations took their beatdowns and brainwashing meekly. After all, it kept the females happy and their lives running smooth.
"Ray Romano took the whole Gamma male success to a whole new level"
The archetype of the New American Male. All by hisself makes a case for bringing back public executions. But then, what to do with the millions who think he's just wonderful? And their corporations. And their schools. And their governments.
Call me old-fashioned
No, I'm gonna call you a feminist hypocrite who's trying to have her cake and eat it too. Admittedly I've never heard of you before, but if I can generalize one thing and one thing only and safely bet a year's salary on its accuracy, it's that women who write for Establishment organs about relations between the sexes are invariably feminists. That means that if I were bored enough to want to dig deeply and go sufficiently far back, I could find examples where YOU TOO were begging men to "get in touch with [their] feminine side." Only once you discovered that men who did so repelled you did you start wanting to "bat for the other team."
[B]ut there are few women who find a male cry-baby sexually attractive.
Again, if I were motivated enough to grab a shovel and start digging, I would find that not so very long ago you were insisting, with all the appropriate snark and arrogance, that just the opposite is true.
As Vox says above, never take seriously ANYTHING any woman says about intersexual relations.
Remember back to when you were 7, think how you'd feel if you saw either parent crying. Now imagine if either parent started telling you about whatever caused the crying and how said parent is feeling. That is what women experience when they see you cry and you share your emotions. It's terrifying to them, of course they are repelled and act out when they see it.
The elites are preparing men to not fight back when the muslim hordes and the illegals from Mexico and Central America overrun the US.
This. Notice that none of this "toxic masculinity" BS the feminists at Slate, Jezebel and Salon harp on about applies to blacks, Muslims and mestizos? It's all designed to emasculate and disempower white men.
Feminism is the ideology of cuckoldry.
He also presented as a mischievous, snarky bad boy, fucking all the nurses in the unit, smirking and offering clever witticisms while doing it, and making the best of a tough situation.
In the movie, yeah. As the television show progressed he got more and more effeminate, until he was turning down nurses because it doesn't feel right. Then in the last season or two, when Alda himself was producing episodes, it took another sharp turn to the hectoring, pussy left.
"Remember back to when you were 7, think how you'd feel if you saw either parent crying."
Ugh... don't remind me. My mom had waterworks spouting all the damned time, I think even after her tubes were tied. So it wasn't the BC pills. I sometimes wish my dad had just slapped her a few times, probably would've fixed it right away.
Now tears pretty much just annoy me unless there's a good reason for them. True physical pain, divorce, death.
I LOL'd reading here some time back when Vox said: "Yeah, it is truly eye-opening to see how fast the waterworks shut down, and how flat and emotionless the voice suddenly goes, when one refuses to respond to the routine."
I don't remember if my own best exposure to that fact was before or after Vox wrote that, but it was actually pretty surreal to watch it happen in real time.
@Eric
Precisely. MASH is an exemplar of the progression from boomer adolescent anti-establishment snark to full-on weepy, self-pitying drool. The latter episodes were unwatchable. Alda was a defiant precursor for all the worst that was to come and how smugly PROUD he was of it.
Be careful what you wish.. truly thoughtful
Glenn Beck is going full gamma today. Normally I would turn it off, but like a trainwreck sometimes you just can't look away.
He talks about trying to get his son to tip his new cowboy hat to women and opening the car door for his wife.
It is in the context of the Lewandowski narrative.
White-Knighting at its most psychotic.
The soundcloud should be up in about 4 hours.
Even worse, and he doesn't realize it, he plays a Mark Levin monologue defending Beck a lot more strongly than Beck is capable of.
"Who do you want to be as a Man?".
Pity there's so few transcripts, but this one episode is good for a series on RoK.
Now he plays Trump "Have you ever apologized? .. Apologize for What?" criticizing.
The blue pill is at toxic levels here.
