Progress vs pendulum

Those who claim that sexual equality is permanent clearly pay no attention to history.
A legal code was produced during the 14th and 13th centuries which, among other things, clearly shows that the social position of women in Assyria was lower than that of neighbouring societies. Men were permitted to divorce their wives with no compensation paid to the latter. If a woman committed adultery, she could be beaten or put to death. It's not certain if these laws were seriously enforced, but they appear to be a backlash against some older documents that granted things like equal compensation to both partners in divorce.
The backlash is coming. One hopes it will come in time to prevent the collapse of Western civilization.

Nota bene: that is the 14th and 13th century BC. What we are seeing today is nothing new, it is merely part of the ebb-and-flow of human events.

14th and 13th century BC

Thank you for using the correct term. Whenever I see 'bce' and 'ce', I want to beat the shit out of the writer.

And yes, history repeats itself. Hopefully we won't revert to complete barbarianism during the next cycle.

Wonder why societies that have sexual equality keep getting taken over by patriarchal ones over and over again through out history? Weird...

Men are beating them in track and field. Next up, the bathrooms. Will there be Title IX enforcement of divorce litigation?

Western Civilization will have to collapse before it can be rebuilt.

Proof positive that most humans are utterly incapable of learning anything from history.

Oh you who say "FASTER PLEASE", heed the words of the prophet: Woe unto you that desire the day of YHWH! to what end is it for you? The day of YHWH is darkness, and not light. (Amos 5:18)

Mycroft, that was a specific quote by Amos to specific people. Look at the context. He's talking to the evil children of Israel who had turned their back on God, not to the Redeemed. To the Redeemed, the Day of the Lord is glorious to behold, even in its terror and majesty.

bc and bce are jewish attempts to deny Christ in the name of inclusivity and political correctness. Never use them. It is the year of our Lord, anno domini - AD.

B.C. is English for "Before Christ)

Philippians 2:10–11 says, “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

As one article says: "The advocates of the switch from BC/AD to BCE/CE say that the newer designations are better in that they are devoid of religious connotation and thus prevent offending other cultures and religions who may not see Jesus as “Lord.” The irony, of course, is that what distinguishes B.C.E from C.E. is still the life and times of Jesus Christ."

Here's the point: While he was unable to provide a scientific explanation for why women who had two sexual partners before marriage were almost as likely as those who had 10 to divorce since the 2000s...

“Progress? There's no such thing as progress. There's only change. You dig a hole in the ground, you build up a city, and you fight a war, and you call it progress?”

The jews were clever in their attempt to remove Christ from the calendar. When I first saw BCE and CE I assumed that they meant Before Christian Era and Christian era. Even though I know what it is supposed to be now I still operate on that paradigm as a way of flipping the bird to those who try to remove the name of Christ from everything.
