Defending Mrs. Brady

A lot of people have gotten their panties in a bunch over Giselle Bundchen's little post-game outburst about the inability of various New England receivers to hang onto the ball. Now, any serious football observer knows that Brady wasn't throwing the ball well after he got crushed by Justin Tuck later in the game; the throw to Gronkowski was short, the one to Welker was high, and the one to Branch was behind him. Hernandez, on the other hand, has no excuse; he was turning up field to run and took his eyes off the ball before it got there.

But Giselle isn't an NFL commentator or a quarterback coach, she is Tom Brady's wife. I think it is fantastic that she was so willing to stick up for her husband, whether her defense of him made any sense or not, and it's admirable that something that was important to him - winning a 4th Super Bowl - was obviously important to her too.

Giselle is Brazilian. She almost surely cares far more about the World Cup than she does about the Super Bowl. But because she is married to a man who cares very much indeed about winning Super Bowls, she is emotionally invested in his passion and in his success. That's a sign of a good wife and a good companion.

And let's face it, she's not the only one who can't believe Wes Welker dropped that ball. Wes Welker can't believe Wes Welker dropped that ball either.

My thoughts exactly; she is a wife standing by her man. Problem is, there is so much trash talk in football and the players take it personally on purpose (bulletin board material), so it came off as typical media criticism or trash talking by a non-player, which will always be seen as disrespectful in the locker room, especially if it's done by a supermodel. Perhaps it would have come off more positively if she publicly supported Tom more often.

Contrast with the first lady, whose outbursts arguably matter.

"Outbursts" is the wrong word. "Remarks" is better, or perhaps "off-the-cuff outbursts" that were posted without proper reflection or editing for word choice.

Sorry, lost my train of thought.

Forget it Jake, it's Boston.

That town has all the nasty, unforgiving expectation of New York with none of the joy in victory.

It is important to remember the charge she was angrily responding to: some jackass shouting "Eli owns your husband."

Bostonians who are now on her case deserve a massive 40 year-case of the Vikings' playoff history.

She's a Brazilian woman defending her mate - the heckler was fortunate to survive.

That was a good, almost great Super Bowl with two teams that absolutely pounded each other. Boston fans need to go jack off in a bloody sock or something - get it out of their system.

Turning on their boy - or even more cowardly, their boy's girl - is so effeminate it makes me sick.

The East Coast could sink in the ocean for all I care, but, knowing them, I bet those lightweights float.

I am also impressed with her actions for the simple fact that it appears they actually have a real marriage, not a Hollywood/celebrity publicity generation machine. I applaud them for that, and I am sure she was able to devise some way to cheer him up after the loss.

Well said, Daniel. I was saying that same thing this morning, esp. re: the Bostonian bitterness.

They'll turn on their own HEROES in a heartbeat. It's rather vicious and the Boston media and the fans feast on it.

It's a bit scary.

That's not getting nearly as much exposure (of course).

Funny... I thought Eli played offense.

In defense of Boston, um, well, they're passionate about their groups of grown men paid millions of $$$ to play playground games.

In visiting the city, and knowing a few dozen people from Boston, I'm certain they can't ALL be complete libtard a$$holes. Haven't met someone yet to prove it, but statistically speaking, it just can't be true.

The few decent ones I ran into in Boston were all from either the South, or from *gasp* California.

Totally agree, it is nice to see a celebrity supermodel wife do what all wives should do, back up her husband, and show some emotion. It was a close game and it is frustrating to come so close but not make it, especially since the Giants also won the last time Brady faced them in the Super Bowl.

The only problem here is the poor sportsmanship of the Giants fans.

Nope - that's to be expected. Her reaction was quite reserved, basically meaning "Tom Brady can't do everything, especially with a blasted arm."

She could have said, "No, Eli beat Tom today. He owns snipey little castrata like you. I'm sure your grotesque, bloated, sweaty ass looks ridiculous hanging on his wall, but I guess he doesn't get to pick his fans. Have fun banging your dog in victory tonight. It's good for mankind you haven't got the potency to breed puppies."

The real problem is Bostonians who crave a goat so badly they are willing to sacrifice a (metaphorical) virgin in order to get it.

Primitives.

No wonder they are so big on clam chowder - it's as close as they can get to rocky mountain oysters without quivering in fear.

They are so afraid to keep their yaps shut because they might have to suffer the consequences of actually listening to someone for a change.

Hey, lay off the clam chowder already.

Fish sticks are kind of fresh if you let them thaw first.

Giselle is a class act!

I was thrilled to see Giselle after my eyes were assaulted by the ugliness of Madonna, MIA and Nicki.

So this one time, someone said something derogatory about me, so my supermodel wife turns around and defends my performance in no uncertain words...

And that's when I woke up.
